" Hurt Locker" WINS BIG !
How Hollywood could praise out fighting men really surprises me. Considering I loved the honor given our troops by probably the most liberal group in the country amazes me....I said it was a intense picture of the horrors and fears and the mind changes that go trough our military in the time of extreme danger. The honor goes to them, and to a movie maker that was so thankful of our troops, and had the guts to make a movie that praises them..... I applaud them in giving praise to those who serve, and to those who have given all......ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL....God Bless America.....

Great film and I'm glad it cleaned up in Oscars for writer, director and best picture.
Yeah, I've read the criticism of it in an earlier thread on this wire and I don't think the faults amount to a tiny hill of dandruff.
Ever since "Near Dark" I've admired director Kathryn Bigelow's work.
And much of the credit for "The Hurt Locker," which was given to him at the Oscars, goes to the writer who was an embedded reporter with the demolition teams. The film was an "indie," meaning it had no backing from the major studios or producers.

Hurt Locker
As an old Marine, I have had to explain to several folks the meaning of being put in a hurt locker! If you've ever been there, you'll understand. From Parris Island on, that expression put fear in the heart of the most seasoned grunt!

Good movie but Avatar should have gotten the win....Oscar hs nothing to do with best anything, it's all political..was it any surprise that Bigelow was going to get it when Barbara Striesand came out to present it? And half the academy members are over 70 and they watch the screener DVDs on their TV.....Avatar in 2D a 19 inch Sony is like bungee jumping off the curb.

I was glad to see the U.S. Army beat the blue people out for the big one. I thought Kathryn Bigelow's acceptance speech was very classy.

The director's exceptance speach, both of them. were great.
The evil militarized security force in Avatar was a slam on our military. Glad to see something positive about our troops for a change. She'll never work in that town again! How dare she portray the military other than the way Murtha did. As murderers.

Sip, I'll agree with you that it is mostly political. However, I don't think Avatar should have won for best picture. It was an incredible movie to watch in 3D with stunning visual effects. But, it had a script with a story line that's been overused, nothing original. It rightfully won in the technical categories it was nominated for and it may be a movie that changes the technology of how we view movies. While the technology of making Avatar and its visiual effects are amzing, nothing else about the film is.

As a career Soldier I didn't, and still don't, understand why so many people feel that way.
The hero of the film was also military, no?
