Default "I Spy" star dies

Robert Culp passed away at 79.

Seems like they're dropping like flies lately.

Oh, my gosh. First Fess Parker, now Robert Culp, one of the most under-appreciated actors ever. You were great, Mr. Culp. Your co-star in I Spy, Bill Cosby, once said you taught him everything he knew about acting.

Man, I hate that. I remember him in Greatest American Hero. I was a kid back then and I used to love that show, corny as it was. I have the episodes on DVD. Great guy.

If you ever get a chance to watch the movie "Outrage", do so. From 1973 Culp plays a man who moves into a gated community with his family that seems to have a teenage gang problem. Don't want to give it away, but watch it if you ever get the chance. RIP, Mr. Culp.

I did like I Spy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Spy_(1965_TV_series), like The Man From U.N.C.L.E more. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Hi:
If I recall correctly Hobie Gilman (Robert Culp) in "Trackdown" used a S&W .44 B/T (#3?).

I remember that. Like you, not to give it away, but I believe it involved some kicking butt and taking names. Dang, 1973. Was it that long ago?

I am really sorry to learn this. Culp was a guy I kept hoping would get some decent comeback cameos in modern films, but he seems to have been content with light roles in episodes of TV shows I didn't watch.

I want to give a tip of the hat to Culp's underappreciated movie, "Hickey and Boggs." He directed in addition to taking a lead role. He and Cosby played against type by taking on roles that were a long way from their "I Spy" characters. Kind of dated in its themes and settings, but still some great dialog from a couple of deadpan, cynical burned-out semi-losers who still foolishly believe that the world can be a better place than it is.

I also liked his portrayal of the gunslinger with weak eyes in "Hannie Caulder," an otherwise forgettable western with Raquel Welch eventually taking revenge on Ernest Borgnine.

Farewell, Hoby. There were a lot of westerns on late-'50s TV, but Trackdown is one of the few that I remember with appreciation.

I don't even want to mention remaining actors whose screen presence I liked because I am afraid I might jinx them.

I really enjoyed "I Spy" growing up. May he rest in peace.

I watched him in "The Pelican Brief" just yesterday and hadn't even heard the news of his passing. And yes, I remember I Spy also.... RIP.

I remember the "I Spy" series with Cosby very well. Culp was a good actor and apparently not riddled with the usual Hollywood scandals over the years. He'll be missed. R.I.P.

I think he was a "gun guy". He carried a 1911 in several of his roles and a long barreled M-29 in "Hickey and Boggs, and I'd like to see that movie again.
