The rating system here confuses me. If they use crime per capita then no wonder the states listed are high. I'm very unhappy Gary is not #1 in all categories.

um not for nothing but where the heck did they get their info!? First, I think those robbery numbers are a bit low, not to mention some of the others, for any state and Alaska beating out NY and California? And what with NY not even being on the list!?
This list has not been researched enough by the list makers, or they chose what they wanted to see, flawed about sums it up. I wonder what their parameters were for being the worst states.

CQ Press is a independent publisher and from what I read about them I don't believe their report at all.

This is an example of how figures don't lie but liars figure. I call BS.

They claim all crimes carry equal weight, I'm not sure if that's enough to skew the results this far but just that one factor is stupid. I mean, I'm not nearly as worried about the 1996 Ford truck being stolen as having my wife and daughter assaulted and myself murdered yet they equate those 'crimes' as being equal.

What a crock.

That's just silly. Everybody knows it's Bush's fault.

On a serious note, my understanding is NYC is one of the safest large cities in the world. The current leaders are idiots, of course, but part of Giuliani's legacy is the finest police, fire and EMTs where the rubber meets the road. True NYers?

They sure do talk funny though.

Well, I'm in #2 (New Mexico) and it makes sense to me, on a per capita basis. I work violent crimes on Indian reservations - they make big, bad NYC or Detroit look like kiddyland.

Just a quick glance... looks about right. AL GA TN all shows top ten murder rates. The South always is higher than the rest of the country... and we keep those electric chairs and syringes at the ready!

Governor Christie of NJ commented " I just won't allow NJ to be on that list. I simply won't allow it. Besides it would have to be the fault of our overpaid public workers, especially teachers. Those heathens"

yes, that is sarcasm

#1 in murder-but only #3 overall-we got to pick up the slack in rapes and armed home invasions
