I stumbled across this on another forum this morning and thought I'd post it here as I seem to recall we have some Deadliest Catch fans.

The excerpt below is only part of the tribute, I think it captures not only Captain Phil's attributes but also hits the nail on the head regarding our society these days.

I guess it comes down to this. The world is desperate for authenticity. In business and in real life. In work and play. We crave it I think, because it's in such short supply. Consequently, when we see it, we'll wait for it. We'll watch it on TV. We'll stand in line for a chance to be near it. Fans, fishermen, CEO's – we know authenticity when we see it, even if we're not looking for it. And Phil Harris had it in spades.

I didn't know Phil well enough to properly eulogize him. However, I knew him enough to like him, and more than enough to miss him. He was the real deal. Flawed, human, decent, kind, and totally authentic.

Deadliest Catch sure won't be the same without him. Now I have to decide who my new favorite captain will be. I'm thinking Jonathon of the Time Bandit.

I know it may be a bit trite,...

...but Captain Phil Harris made this earth brighter and better for having lived; and it's just a bit darker, now that he has passed.

God grant you fair winds and following seas. Rest in peace, Captain.
