What the heck kind of "gun" is this? Please Help!
It says "RTS" on each grip. And "made in italy" on the side. There is no mag. or a place for one. The bore is threaded inside at the muzzle. That square hole under the barrel goes all the way to the back where there's a little door you can open and look through it. On the bottom of the grip a little pin that pops down for some unknown purpose. There's a safety (looks like) and a button on the left. I don't know it it's an incomplete toy or what. Or what went in that square hole and why the bore is threaded. Any clues?

Blank pistol. There was a rect. bar that held the 6 .22 blanks that fired from the bottom and transfered front to back when firing Semi-auto self-advancing. Flame hole in top of bbl. or directed through the bbl., grip pin to eject the spent blanks from the bar mag.

Thanks, Rimfired! That was ultra fast. Why do you think the muzzle was threaded?

Mystery to me. I had one as a kid in the 60's same design different mfgr., Roehm, I think. If this one does not have the gas/flame hole in the top of the bbl. and the flame shoots out the front, maybe for a spark arrestor? We used to call them "acorn" guns. Tiny crimped blanks looked like acorns.

I had figured it was a blank or starter pistol. I had one just like that as a kid, found it at a yard sale for .50 cents.

Barrel could be threaded for any of several possible attachments. In Europe, some countries allow these blank guns and the carrying there of that don't allow "live" weapons. Thus attachments exist - variously - to expel tear gas and another option is to expel a rubber ball with enough velocity to theoretically stun someone/give them an owie. Other blank guns have been designed to launch small objects as an aid in dog training, small flares, etc.
Coibel made James Bond cap guns on the same lines/principle at one point, possibly off a mold of one of the blank guns. These are still made, so I suppose that you might be able to get a new "magazine" for it.

Perhaps this blank firing/starter gun's muzzle was threaded for an optional suppressor???

I think the threaded section is intended to hold a receptacle into which bird repellent cartridges are inserted. The fire from the blank .22 ignites them.
We had a couple of these things where I used to work to TRY to scare geese off.
