Anyone shoot 22long or 22 short out of a M63 or M 617?
I need a "urban" plinking round and wonder if the shorts would be quiet. Will they come out a 6" barrel??
I don't want CB caps or those primer only rounds.

They'd still be a bit loud out of a revolver- even if you use .22 Short CB's from CCI.
I'd suggest a long barreled .22 rifle to shoot them from if possible.

But I can use them, yes?
Kind like a 38 spl out of 357mag?
Disregard the "noise" factor for now.

Find some "super colibri" by Aguila. They don't have powder in the cartridge- only priming compound. They're specifically made for shooting in handguns, and will reliably exit the barrel. The loudest thing will be the hammer fall and bullet impact.

Yes shorts and longs will work fine in a revolver, much as the .38/.357 example you mentioned, although they likely won't function in an autoloader.

Yes, they work. I'd suggest you plan on cleaning the gun if you fire many of them. Some of the older shorts/longs/cb caps seem to leave a bathtub ring, and it interferes with later chambering of LR ammo. Good luck finding suitable ammo at a reasonable price. I used a M63 for my indoor squirrel shooting (his fault for invading.) Also for back deck 'coon killing. They liked my wifes habit of tossing full garbage bags out the night before garbage day. I didn't like cleaning up a 2nd time. Hint: turn off the motion lights before blasting them (how does Dick know this?)
My squirrel shooting was more centered on shot loads. OK, I only killed one. I moved to a 9mm/ S&W 547 for outdoor discouragement. The 9mm shot loads are pretty hot, maybe enough to cycle a semi-auto. More shot, going faster, and bigger pellets. Tailor the load to the job at hand.

I live in the city limits of a residential area. We have a Possum epidemic. I have a Jack Russel Terror who sometimes corners them and the fight is on. He has killed 3 on his own. I have been live trapping them with a cage trap and transporting them to a nearby nature preserve. That is getting old fast!. Wasn't as bad when I had the pickup but now in a enclosed SUV they stink along with the cat food I use for bait. Enough is enough!
I do not care if they are around, as they really do not bother anything, but trying to get the dog in at 11-12 pm and then having to give him a bath is a PITA.

RWS34 pellet rifle..........right between eye and ear on squirrel, possum, coon
CBs out of a 63 work, but don't shoot to sights, so only good very close.

That is a great Springer and would be one I would buy. My Brother in Law gave me a Gammo Hunter .177 but that thing is as loud as a 22 rifle.

For a while I was using a shovel on them. But I had the problem of not knowing how to dispose of them (actually, my method was to just toss them over the back fence with a shovel. I finally realized they weren't dead and were just waking up and waddling off. So I became a changed man. I'd hit them with the shovel. They'd either die or play 'possum. So I decided I'd give them a fighting chance. I live on a state highway. So I'd changed from tossing them over the back fence to tossing them out in the roadway. If they wake up before the first bus, truck, or hillbilly in a pickup truck, they may live to destroy my garbage another day.

If you don't want to use CB caps or Primer only rounds-what the hell-a LR subsonic is no louder than a short and cheaper to boot. As far as possums-I whack them with a shovel and then deliever the coupe de gras with a CB behind the ear-I then throw it in the neighbor's trash can
One thing I suggest you NOT do is use a .45. They are WAYYYYYYYY louder at night than they are in the day time

I thought you would throw them in the stew pot.

You want to tell us, Gary, how you've discovered that little fact? Or would you prefer to invoke your right to remain silent?

Think I'll keep silent on that one- I plan to run for public office in about 18 months

I shoot thousands of .22 Colibris out of my S&W 18 and 63 during the winter. Most is shot while sitting on my living room couch , into a box stuffed with old magazines on the kitchen table. I used to use an old Outers bullet trap , but the sound of the bullet hitting it was louder than the report of the Colibris. Colibris are even quieter than RWS BB Caps .

Will the Colibris "dispatch" a possum? If I need to shoot one, I do not want to hurt it and have it suffer. When my dog corners one it would be at just a few feet.
