Default I may have saved a childs life.

I am sharing this story with my friends and associates on the forum.
Take from it what you will. But we should be reminded to
'Always be vigilant' and watch out for one another.

I am an engineer at a hotel on the beach in Florida.

" I was called to a guests' room ,during the recent holidays
to bring batteries and a screwdriver for a childs toy.
On the floor where the room is located ,I greeted the father
in the hallway ,he was talking with a friend.
he said to go in ,and i would find his wife ,for instructions.
I knocked ,the door was ajar ,and said 'Engineering'hello!

I entered the suite ,and immediately began to choke and cough.
Something was wrong. I went immediately to the kitchen
and found the burners on the range on full.
I shut off the range and oven ,and moved to the living room
and opened the double doors facing the beach.
As i turned ,I see a small boy ,asleep on the couch.

I went for the father ,and told him to come ,quickly,
"Bring your son outside ,,and wake him up ,please!
We sat on the terrace ,and I watched the boy closely,
determining whether to call rescue , but he recovered quickly,
and after 5 minutes, he was talking with his dad about going to the beach.

All this time ,the mother was bathing the baby in the
smaller room used for the children at the opposite end of the hall.

I explained about open flame ,and carbon monoxide ,as gently
but firmly as I could. cautioning them about sterilizing the stove
and proper ventilation.

I may have saved the boys life.
I guess I was in the right place at the right time.I am very grateful
to have had the opportunity to do such a thing.

Maybe you have a story like this one?
Share yours too.

Have a blessed day. Allen.

Allen,

I'd say, you likely saved the lives of the entire family. They at some point would have all been in that room and just would have went to sleep never to wake up.

CO is dangerous and people just don't realize how much....

Good job Allen, my hat is off to you Sir!

I went to my Grandmothers house and walked in and smelled something strange. Then I noticed Grandma was slurring her words badly. As a lifelong Baptist she had never tasted alcohol, I knew something was wrong. She had a gas stove that you had to turn on the gas and then light it with a match. The gas was on but not lit. I quickly turned it of and opened the house up. I shudder to think what would have happened had I not come by. Not long after that she developed congestive heart failure and passed away. I have always wondered if this contributed to it. She passed away 14 years ago and I miss her every day.

I had a neighbor who started to feel ill with headaches, etc. So she would stay home instead of going to work. She got worse and worse. It turned out that there was a carbon monoxide leak and she was poisoning herself. She didn't die but suffered permanant brain damage.

Get yourselves a carbon monoxide detector. They're cheap and valuable.

Have a talking CO / Fire Alarm right at my bedroom door and three other regular fire alarms throughout the house. Also have 2 CO monitors in the cabin of my Boat. I don't really have any source of CO in my home other than my wood pellet stove which is in the basement but I still take it very seriously!

Job well done and a tragedy averted. God wasn't ready for that child and sent you to save him. I don't believe these things happen just by chance.
