What is the your favorite J Frame?
My vote is for the 642, as I like the enclosed hammer, the aluminum frame (steel is a little heavy, scandium is a little light) and stainless construction (at least on the cylinder/barrel).
What's your favorite?
p.s. couldn't edit my grammar in the headline after I clicked post, haha

442/642...and the hammerless models let you get a bit higher grip on them.

Re: What is the your favorite J Frame?
After bouncing through various J-Frame snubbies and a K-Frame snubbie,
I settled on a 342PD pre-lock... Won't rust and very light to carry... But it's not a plinker...

36-6 or my 940. For pure pleasure of shooting it has to be the 36-6.

442.
All black in a black Mika. Blends right into a black pair of jeans.
Feel naked without it.

A good old (1971-72 ish) Mod 36. I may be a little partial though since this is the only J Frame I have.

Sentimental favorite is a Model 36 RB with a grip adapter, but I carry a 640-1 more often. It's on my hip now, and there is a 442 in the drawer next to my elbow as I type this.
Itchy has her 642 within arm's reach as she watches TV in the other room.
J-frames? Nah, got no use for them.

Well now . . . . .
My favorite to shoot is my four inch Model 63.
My favorite to carry on the farm while I'm on a tractor or working on fence is my Model 36-1 three inch, in a Loboleather flap holster.
My favorite to carry in my pocket when I go to the evil environs of Macon, Columbus, or (God forbid) Hotlanta are any of my two-inch Chiefs Specials, usually a Model 60.

638. Love having the single action option. It's my only j frame now, but i've had others. It does what I need it to do; beside me near the computer as I write this, and in my pocket when I go out at night. The Spegels are real pretty.

642 and CorBon DPX in a Mika. Second place goes to a 442 with some old diamond magna grips and Speer 135's.

Was the M36. Now the 640-1 because I have the .357 load option. I also like steel.

Although I have an M38 in my pocket as I write this, my favorite J-frame is my M649-2. I shoot it best of all the small revolvers I own.

I don't think I ever met a J frame I didn't like.
I was planning on going for the stainless steel J frame trifecta - a model 60 "Chief's Special" a model 649 "Bodyguard" and a model 640 "Centennial."
I had the model 60 as well as the 649, but I traded the 649 for "something" and in a moment of weakness, I sold the model 60.
I gave myself a good, long talking to, finally realizing that I'm NOT a collector, but rather just a dumb cop.
So, I sold the "something" that I traded my 649 for and used those funds for a 4566 that I have on order as we speak, then I sold the model 60 for a more user friendly (read: lighter) no lock model 642.
I think the 4566 on the hip and the 642 in the pocket will be the perfect carry combo.
For me anyways.

I was born in '49 and sort of collect *49* things (still a Bears fan though). So my J is a 49. It's my only J-Frame.
I really like the revolver - I shoot it quite accurately up to 25 yards, but it's a bit heavy for pocket carry - at least for me.
So - My favorite may be a Model 38, even though I don't have one (yet).
I really like blued guns, but my favorite is a 686
I was handed an LCR a while ago and couldn't believe how light it is. But I'm just not a plastic gun guy
It may be time to trade my 3913 for a 38 - Decisions, decisions

I have several "J" frames, but I've always been partial to the Bodyguard-style revolvers.
1. S&W 649, .357 Magnum
2. S&W 638, .38 SPL +P

Model 60
My first J Frame was a Model 60 no dash. Traded it off and should have kept it. I now have a 642-1 Non IL. Love it for light weight ankle and pocket carry. Picked up a nice Model 36-7 last week and this weekend was very happy to locate a Model 60 no dash again. This one is a in much better shape then the first one I had. Came in the box. The Model 60 was the first stainless steel gun S&W made. I love the stainless steel guns so my choice is the Model 60.

They're all good. Got the wife a M37 and dehorned it back in '76; light and slick, and she shoots it well; it's been doing duty ever since. She quit loaning it to me so I got a 442 for an "always" gun. For fun the M60-4 3" FL is the greatest one ever.
Makes you wonder how the world ever got along without them.

Ignoring my I-frames to focus on the pure J's, I am kind of partial to this one because it is the only one I have.
I put the ebony stocks on because I didn't like the factory handle.

J Frame
S&W MOD60-4, three inch full under lug barrel, adjustable rear sight, TH & TT. I put a square butt grip on it too.
Used to be my ex-wife's but her hippy BF doesn't believe in guns? You'd figure that after many years of owning and shooting this sweet little 38 she'd want to keep it?
I sure am glad she didn't!

Well, the blue 36 RB with a brass T-grip is the one that moves me most. It is the replacement for the 36 my drunk girlfriend got taken away from her by a bartender in 1974. The remaining eleven can line up after that...

Have to say ,my favorite J , would be my model 35-1.
To me ,way cooler and more fun to shoot than a short J-38.

My favorite is my 637-2. (I wish it didn't have the lock, but it does, and I can live with that.) It's rated +P, is light, carries well in an ankle holster, and has the hammer spur for single action shooting (a MUST with me). -Ed.

For shooting it's a .357 Model 60 project gun. IL removed, highly polished with Flitz, Pachmayr Compaq's, glass smooth trigger and soon to be XS Big Dot. I figure this is one I can play with and not harm the value much...

Favorite J frame
My favorite is my 351PD...... Light as a feather and a hoot to shoot.
For slightly heavier carry I have a 637-2.

I have a 640-1 that I like very much, but think I would prefer the 640 (no dash) in .38 Spcl.
