Just alittle while ago i was out putting togather my new lawnmower and heard my 2 year old screaming so i went over to the sand box to see a nice sized spider with red and orange marking on it's back jump towards my son.Yes it missed getting on him but it was close enough for me to snatch my son up by the arm and haul. Poor kid probably thinks i jerked his arm out of socket.I hate spiders with a passion that few know.Now all i want to do is kill something and it was first on my list,i picked up a shovel and went in for the kill but the greasy thing was gone.I did dig up all the sand and flipped the box over so my son couldn't play in it anymore.

8 legs,hairy looking,red and orange markings on his back,about the size of a quarter give or take,and likes to jump.

Dang spider still makes my skin crawl as bad as that time i had a GA pine roach in the house late one night and could hear it but not see it.I felt something fall on my chest.I turned on the lights just in time to wet my self,scream like a 10 year old girl and run around thumping my chest like an ape for 10 minutes,then after it was all over i had to get on my knees and pray for forgiveness for some of the cuss words i said during the rant.

I read one time that the most venomous Arachnid is the Grand Daddy Long-legs (Harvestman). It just has no way to deliver it. Good thing, we used to play with them everyday. My son (40 now) as a toddler had a common garden spider by a leg and was headed for his mouth with it. Hy was fine and the wife was ok after a few Valiums.

Hey, don't worry about spiders........it's those "Sabre-tooth Crotchy Crikets" you have to watch out for.

The spider i saw wasn't on the chart but neither was my reaction.I may have seen more than i did in my flurry of furry.

Is there anything i can get thats safe for my kids and yard or do they need to tuff it out while i freak out.

While you are at it, tell me what this one is. And yes that is a .22 long rifle cartridge next to it.

That is not a big enough round is what it is.

This one looks like a wolf spider. Big & scary looking, but they eat a lot of other bugs.

I can tell you what it aint,a greasy spot on the sole of my shoe as i slide it across my rug coming in to the house.

The Black Widow and the Brown Recluse(Fiddleback) are the most dangerous spiders typically seen around the U.S. and a bite from either is really bad news, but they are hard shelled and not hairy. The Fiddle back will rot out a huge area of flesh and has killed many people, and the little spiders are everywhere, and I have seen them at my home and in office buildings on many occasions, and its a darn good thing that they are not very aggressive.

I think its adorable!
No, spiders and snakes don't bother me...scorpions are another story, however.

I think the one in the pic is a wolf spider. There are many genera of Wolf spider, ranging in body size from less than 0.04 to 1.18 in. Hogna is the genus with the largest of the wolf spiders. Among the Hogna species in the U.S., the nearly solid dark brown H. carolinensis is the largest, with a body that can be more than one inch long.
