I visited my favorite gun shop this afternoon. They told me that they had taken in a gun and sold it immediately that I might have been interested in. Turns out, they bought a .44 Magnum 5 screw and a customer who watched the transaction offered them a nice profit. He took away the like new .44, probably a 6 1/2, because they did not think it was a 4". They hesitated a bit on telling me what the customer had paid. Finally, they said,,,, $650! They had bought it for $450 and were happy to make a nice profit in minutes. I told them the gun was worth $2000 before I could stop myself.

One of them said he was going to call me, but this guy was a on site willing buyer.

I'm not sure it would have been worth $2000, but from their description, it was like new, so it was worth way more than $650!

Oh well.

I hate it when that happens. I guess we have all missed a few or more great deals in our local gun shops. I recall one pristine Browning HP that got away... then there was that really clean 4" Model 27...

I can say I have never found a good deal at a gun store. Where I live they are all so high, and have very few S&W's. I have missed guns that individuals had for sale at a good price so I know how you feel. Don

Unlike Hawkeye, I have made some excellent buys from gun stores.

The 650$ 44 is a good example of what can happen. Certainly no luck every trip, or in every store, but I have picked up a few recent tradeins that were outstanding bargains to me.

It pays to shop around for sure.
