Default .22 mag Sentinel

Bought this yesterday. Pic is not my gun. I'm to lazy to take out the pitcher taker. My new gun is samey same condition, no .22 LR cyl. Ugly ain't it? 9 shots, built like the proverbial tank. Locks up tight. Pretty loud. Anybody got one?

Not that ugly actually...looks a bit like a starter kit for a Colt Detective special.

I still remember the HS ads for these pistols. I thought they were kind of neat looking at the time.

That's what caught my eye originally. The gun was on a lower shelf in the store and I thought maybe it was a DS with a really ugly grip. I thought I could swap grips on it but I've since found that original and aftermarket grips are non existent. I am thinking of striping what appears to be a polymer "wash" off the grips and staining them walnut.

JCMack, yes, those Sentinals were pretty neat guns...sadly I recently sold a .22 cal ( LR) for one of your guns....I may stilll have a box for the Sentinal here someplace, think its marked 4 in and nickel on the end label though from what I remember, a black box, with the styrofoam insert.....

I have had both, the 22LR and the 22Mag. Yes, the 22 mag was loud. I also had problems with the 22 mag cases sticking in the cylinder. Needed to be polished out. I felt both were well made, and accurate.

Traded into a 4" model of the same gun a number of years back.
Had a lady friend that needed a light weight pistol with light recoil and I let her have it.

They are nice guns have owned several of the 22lr guns over the years and like them. Wish soeone was still making them. The size and weight were just right and 9 shoots to boot.

Wink

This thread brings back some great memories.
My folks gave me this Sentinel for Christmas in 1958.
I was 14...do the math (:>) !
It got me started on a lifetime handgun hobby.
Still have it.
Don

For a few years I owned a High Standard Camp Special, which had a 6" barrel, steel frame, wood grips and adjustable sights. Unfortunately that was before I learned to appreciate a good 22 revolver and I let it get away from me.

I had a Camp Gun, too, it was the first handgun I owned. The DA trigger pull was really heavy, however the SA wasn't too bad, so I tended to shoot it that way most of the time. My Camp Gun, Marlin 39M and a brick of ammo made for a good day of plinking.
