Default Grip Adapters

(I did a search but did not find anything even close.)

I have grips adapters by several companies, Mershon, Pachmayr, S&W and Tyler.

What approximate time frames did each company work in and were there any other companies that made a grip adapter?

Thank you.

Kevin

FIE made or imported Tyler copies for a little while. A board member here sold me a few. They were probably actually made by using a Tyler to make the mold. They were well made and just as good as a Tyler.

It's strange how little info is available. I've tried to find out a bit about Mershon, as I bought theirs installed on two ex-police guns, but there is very little information to be had. I know Mershon was around in the 30s and was bought up by Pachmayr in the late 50s, but that's it. One M&P with a Mershon shipped in 1947, so that fits the period, but the other is from 1968, so who knows?

The one on the 1947 gun is marked "Glendale Calif", the other one "L.A. 15, CA".

Any of the S&W revolvers. I am trying to find the era of each adapter company.

I have found the same, very little. Perhaps it is too small of a niche.

To the best of my knowledge is the following.

Fray-Mershon grip adapters: 1930s-1950s

...became Pachmayr grip adapters: 1950s-1970s

...who made the S&W logo'd grip adapters in the 1960s.

Tyler: 1950s (?) - present

BK: a couple years ago - present

In the 1960s/1970s, importers like FIE, Pacific and Supreme were bringing in grip adapters from Japan, modeled after the aluminum Tyler adapter.

Here's a scarce one from Supreme (we see that BK wasn't the first to think of dual mounting tabs):
