Spring time is here and the does will be having their little ones. I just about stepped on this one while out in the woods. If your going out take a camera, never know when you'll get a shot like this. Isn't it the cutest? Hard to believe this could be on the dinner table in a couple of years.

And yes, I did spell "season" wrong!

That, and many more like it become dinner in a matter of minutes when coyotes find them. Read the article in Peterson's Hunting May/June issue, as many as 75%. Depressing to say the least.

Although I have a lot of Coyotes, the majority of our fawn crop will be taken by hogs. They have all but destroyed the Turkey population ,and the Quail have been gone for several years. I trap a lot of them, but they reproduce quicker than I can trap them (kinda like illegals).

I've been receiving (almost) daily visits from a few deer over the past month or so, and two days ago two fawns started showing up as well. They've become a staple.. breakfast, coffee, deer.

This fawn was just out from the house last year (follow the hose)

Around here a lot of fawns are lost to tractors in the fields (pretty gruesome) coyotes, dogs, and black bears. The ones that survive will likely be killed by hunters within a year or two.

Absolutely! Enjoy sitting out on the back deck with a cup of coffee and watching em cross the yard. They are like neighborhood pets. Should see some little ones here shortly.

Life in Tenn is good.

Great pictures! The only problem I have with deer is on
the highway. Although I am a hunter, it sickens me every
time I see road-killed fawns. I guess the"intelligence" of
deer does not include things like cars or trains. They just
don't seem able to grasp what they are looking at until it
is too late. "Course, if they could figure that out, it'd mean I'd never get another during hunting season.
("Hey, ma, that little camo hut wasn't there yesterday...")

Coyotes eat most of our fawns in Columbia County New York, even through EnCon disagrees. Our herd is down big time.

That will be a good eater in november. I leave the giant bucks to the macho trophy hunters and shoot the ones that taste good.

Nice pictures. We had a pair last fall that came into our backyard every night to eat apples. They got to where they didn't care we were out with the dog even. I started chasing them off to put some fear into them before bow season but expect they got whacked early on as one then the second stopped coming.
