Default Grizzly

Saw Grizzly sow this morning, well only her head.Mine and neighbours dogs must have had cub treed.Did not see cub,but have seen large and small piles of scat recently, assumed Black Bear.
Only a short look from about 100 ft.,but for sure Grizzly,18" dia head at least.
I am in southern BC,an hour from the border about 150 miles north of Spokane,WA. In a mountain valley at 2000 ' ,near the bottom.
Know that there is probably no worry, but sill a tad disconcerting.
Not a hunter so SMLE will have to do.Currently cleaning etc, peace of mind.

Mark

Saw a show on Canadian polar bear a number of years ago. They interviewed an eskimo lady who had just dispached a polar with a SMLE that was trying to break into her home. Not sure what type of ammo she was using (soft point?), but a .303 can do the job.

The Eskimoes, or whatever the PC term for them is, up in Alaska tend to just use 5.56mm/.223 for everything, including polar bears if that makes you feel any better. During the heyday of empire, the .303 probably did just what the .30-06 and 8mm Mauser did and killed every species of game on earth. I wouldn't worry about it.

Default 303

4 of us solid landers went moose hunting 'in the swamps' with a Canadian local. We all had the fancy hunt clothes or whatever and top of the line big rifles.

The local had a rough 303 with no rear sight and wore torn sweat pants.

The local got a nice cow. We got gilch.

There was a black bear treed by a dog near where I live yesterday. The Oklahoma Dept. of Wildlife shot it with a tranq. dart and "relocated" it. I guess they can't say that there aren't any bears around here anymore.
