Default Safe Revolver Stand

The safe is getting crowded so I needed to make more use of space and came up with this revolver rack I made.

It’s set up so it will hold almost any size revolver with almost no side to side movement.. It’s made from brazilian cherry with wipe on Watco cherry finish.

I made it wide enough to fit across the shelf in the safe. It’s designed so that the frame in front of the trigger guard fits in the notches and the cylinder rests on top providing a stable position to hold the revolver.

Any ideas or comments for improvement would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking, 4D5…

Beats mine all wrapped up in holely, smelly old socks all stacked up in piles! Old toe jam seems to keep em from rusting too!

I like it - simple but effective. I just got a safe and was looking to make something but a lot of the stuff you see is needlessly complex. How does it do with pistols (I have a mix)?

I was wondering if you could provide a few details like width, spacing, hole diameter etc. I assume you drilled with (say) a forstner bit and finished the slot on a band saw?

I like the tapered feet - nice touch - just because it's in a safe doesn't mean it has to be ugly! I also think felt would be a nice addition - I was wondering if it comes in rolls that are peel/stick in .75 inch width.

If that frame requires that all your handguns be revolvers, it sounds like a pretty practical concept.

The current configuration will not work with pistols. If you make it large enough for pistols, the revolvers will "flop" around in the slots.

The same could however be done for a dedicated pistol stand.

The stand is 17 1/2” wide with an overall height of 2 3/4”.

The notched cross piece is 2” wide, 3/4” thick and 17 1/2" long.

The notches are 2 1/2” on center and 1 1/4" from the ends and the notches are 1 1/4” deep and 3/4" wide (forstner bit and bandsaw).

The legs are 3/4" tall 1” wide and 2” long, tapered on the ends.

All the edges except the feet are rounded over with a 1/4” radius round over in the router. All other edges broke with sandpaper.

If I find some self-stick felt I'll probably do that but that's how it is for now.

4D5: Thanks so much for sharing the details - I'm going to try your design - elegant in its simplicity. I'll probably use red oak but I do have some pieces of birds-eye maple and "blood wood" left over from my still incomplete chess board . Have some walnut too - you know how that goes.

I think I'll try to adapt it for pistols too (Glock 19, Beretta 92, a couple Kel Tecs and a MK III and a future Colt 1911XSE) - thanks again!

Your are welcome.

Sounds like you've got some nice wood to work with. Either one would look good. The last of my blood wood went for a display stand for GF.

Post some pic's when you get it done.
