Default Has anyone done a tour of the S&W factory?

What was it like? Is there a contact person for setting up a tour?

My wife and I went on a tour of the factory last fall. I called a few weeks before we went and was told that they like groups of at least five for a tour.
The day we went to the factory there were four people, counting us, for the tour. The other two people thought it would only take a half hour or so and the guide told them the tour was alot longer than that. He could tell that we were very interested in S&W's when we were in the museum that is located inside the factory.
He gave my wife and I a tour and it was great. Just be sure that all people in your party have closed toe shoes on. The man who gave us a tour was a retired employee, very interesting to talk to and he had alot of stories to tell us, our tour lasted over three hours.

My experience was quite similar to Jubela#4's.
When I did call S&W for info I was told they wanted 6 people for a tour. There were only 2 of us, I asked if we could tag along w/an existing tour. No problem, we took the tour w/a pack of Cub Scouts.
I look forward to taking the tour again some time, it was great!!
Enjoy, Kevin

A small group of us did the tour several years ago on our way to a NY silhouette weekend. It took more than an hour and was very interesting. They at the time were doing other work besides just guns. They were making auto parts as well. The most interesting was the assembly area where they were putting the guns together. Those people were fast and very fussy. They were working as if it were piece work but I would think it would be extremely boring.

About thirty five years ago, I and several other LEO's from upstate New York went on a tour. They actually took our S&W service revolvers and gave them a going over while we went on tour. The only thing they charged for was wood, if you wanted new grips.

As an aside, we got stopped by the Mass. State Police on our way there. The trooper inquired if any of us were New York State Troopers, and we said no. He smiled and sent us on our way.

I guess at the time the two agencies were having some sort of beef. True story!

Sorry for hijacking the tread.

I understand photography is generally not permitted in the factory. Is there any place where photography IS permitted, like the museum?
