Default Hawaiian Saddle

Aloha,

While visiting a friend, I noticed they had a saddle placed on a mini saw horse. Figuring there was an interesting story, I asked about the saddle and at the same time took some photos of it.

It was made by their Uncle, who was a real Hawaiian cowboy(paniolo). He made the saddle and one other(he may have made others, but that's not known).

The Uncle rode his palomino horse, the saddle and mexican style "silver"
"items" on the horse halters(?) etc. In the Aloha Week Parade held in Honolulu during the early 1970s

The wife was over at their place today and came home with some news articles she is going to scan for them and I will make a CD of the scanned items and the photos that I took.

I want to save the history and the story by putting it onto a website of such stories and saddles.

I would really appreciate it if you guys with horses and interest in such a story will PM me with locations that you think would be interested in local Hawaiiana. Beside the local museum of course.

Thank You

Can you tell I know nothing about horses and such equipment?

Yogi,
Can't tell you much about horses or their gear.
The past 3yrs I've been on the Hawaii-West Coast run on Matson ships. I was amazed when I saw the amount of livestock being shipped.
We carried horses both ways that belonged to Cowboys going to the Mainland or returning from the rodeo circuit.
We carried stock-tenders who told me of the livestock industry in the Islands. It goes way back and sounds fascinating.
