Unhappy Any NYS police officer

I'm in federal law enforcement and recently got notice of a job transfer to one of our offices in upstate New York. I know I'm legal in NYS with my issued handgun, but I also own several personal revolvers and pistols that I use for competitive shooting. I understand that I need to have a NYS pistol permit, but there does not seem to be a way keep them at home without the permit, and it seems like it may be several months after I arrive before can get that. Any help from LEOSA here ? Suggestions ? I hate the idea of mothballing my pistols with a relative in another state for a year while waiting on a permit, not to mentioning putting my competitive shooting season on hold...
