Default GP100 Question

In the classifieds someone is selling a 5" GP and says "it's one of the last ones with the pinned extractor". What is meant by this? did Ruger make a design change? Can someone enlighten me? I didn't want to ask this question in the classifieds so I posit it here. Just curious

Howdy Caj.
I just took a look at my GP-100. I think he may be referring to the extractor star. Mine is of the pinned (or more proprly "post") type. By that I mean that when the star goes back into place on the back of the cylinder, two small posts on the back of the cylinder go into two small holes on the star, thereby keeping it in the same position. The points of said star are squared off at a 90 degree angle.

This is also the case with all my S&Ws except for the newer model 686-5 which has no posts on the back of the cylinder, and no holes in the star. Instead, the star points are cut at an angle, and they cause the star to come to rest in corresponding angled cuts in the back of the cylinder.

Perhaps Ruger is now incorporating that design in their revolvers as well. It certainly would cut down on the cost of building them.
