I'm just back from the August, AZ, "BOW" seminar in Prescott, AZ, where women are instructed and introduced to a wide variety of outdoor skills. I've instructed or helped with various courses over the years, and have lately been especially involved with introducing women to canoes, kayaks, and similar small craft. This is very gratifying volunteer work, affording opportunities to share knowledge and expertise, and build constituencies for sportsmen and gun owners. The program offerings will vary, of course, according to local interests. But, I encourage shooters and sportsmen to participate in these sorts of education and outreach programs.

It really sounds like it was a lot of fun as well. How many participated?

I am not, mercifully, involved in the overall logistics, so don't have a head count, but a typical AZ program attracts +/- 150 women "students". They pay about $200 (I think) for the expenses of food and lodging (we use the campus of a kids' summer camp, in Prescott, AZ), and other expenses are subsidized, here, largely by Safari Club International and other sportsmens' groups. This is a long and well established national program originating at Univ. Wisconsin, now institutionalized nationally. I recommend it to anyone with outdoor skills they can share with the "fairer sex", who are often only a skill-set away from joining our collective constituency.
