.62 Caliber CCW Pistol....
And she's a smoothbore...
This was the ultimate state of the art tactical pistol in it's heyday... About the mid 1700's
Added this to my collection today, it equates to a modern 20 gauge. Nothin' anyone in their right mind would want to stand in front of. I posted a pic of it in my hand to show that this was truly a overcoat pocket pistol of it's day.
Sorry it these posts bore some of you, perhaps it's time to roll in the sidewalk on this kinda stuff. Been doing it for years to give the young and old a taste of what was once.... But like me, it's maybe time to call it a day...

Gizamo that thing must be a blast to shoot . When Colt came out with the signiture series of black powder revolvers I bought a few Walker,Dragoon, 1851 Navy,1860 Army and a 1849 Pocket .They were a blast shooting and very acurate but a pain to clean so I sold them after a bit .I do miss them they sure were classic's and very pretty.

Beautiful piece of history there!
I knew a guy who had a similiar piece like that which was 82 caliber. Had it's own lead ball mold. In 1981 he sold it for $300. I wanted it and had the $$ but was under 21 at the time.

Good Eye!....
Traditionally a 1/16th hole would suffice to get the spark to jump...
Actually the touchhole on my gun is correct. It is a traditional coned type. So it starts out large to gather sparks and then tapers as it passes through the barrel, down to 1/16"....
Many Flintlocks made today have a stainless liner that is removable. The idea is that they can be removed for cleaning. But they are butt ugly. Whenever possible, I try to buy guns that are Historically or Period Correct in their construction. Vent Liners did come into use in the later Flintlock period and were used on many older guns as a repair...

That would look tacky.
Red Ramp and White Outline maybe.
Or a King Super Target rib.....
Pretty pistol, Steve.
You're holding it in the wrong hand.

Very nice. Who made that one?
You've got some beautiful muzzle loaders. Great pics too.
Finally hit the range w/my .50 flintlock. After a minor initial setback on the first visit that left me with a still yet unfired rifle,,I had a pretty good session second time out. Still (re)learning the tricks.
I'll see if the camera will cooperate for some pics.

Mugger shot with Pirate Pistol
I would like to read the court transcripts and newspaper articles that get generated if you actually were forced to use that gorgeous pistol in a self defense scenario. You could always take it to the next big open carry rally in your area stuffed in your sash.

The gun was made by Danny Caywood. Here is a link to his website, but be forewarned....your gonna want one.

I've seen his stuff before. Nicely put together for sure and just enough difference in style from the rest of what you normally see that it really catches your eye.
I gotta get one of those stylishly cut & aged tree stumps for a photo prop too :>) I just toss mine on the ground for now.
