Over the weekend I was looking for a single stack 9mm pistol and I found out very few are produced anymore. I did llok at Sig P6/225 and they looked alright but it is not in production anymore and that is always a consideration for parts and mags.

I did look at the P239 but at almost 9 bills it's a bit to expensive for me. I did look at S&Ws too but for a 39s it is almost outragous at the prices they want for them now, plus again parts and mags and 3913 are pretty scarce.

I also looked at A walther PPS a bit spendy to but not bad

I did look at the Ruger SRC 9mm it looked OK

Anybody out there have any suggestions?

looks like a small 1911 and functions the same.

both good and inexpensive.

900 is too much for a 239, which is one of the Sigs that some people like, and some hate.

P6s were common a few years ago, but the actual P225s were better made. (There was some controversy as to whether the P225 was really out of production, since it was still advertised in Europe for LE sales. But at over a thousand Euros... sort of pricey.)

Check Shotgun News for used ones.

3900 series and even old Model 5/639 and 39-2s should be out there for 400 or less.

Mags for both the Sigs and Smiths are still made and can be had from the factories, though neither are cheap.

A number of companies make single stack 1911 style guns now.

Keltec makes a single stack 9mm, QC is probably a bit of a gamble, but they'll usually make things work, and they're cheap.

The other popular thing is to get a Kahr auto.

I have a Kahr CW9 that I like. I had a Sig 225 but I like the Kahr better.

A friend of mine who is a cop has enough handguns to fill a wheel barrow and his daily concealed carry gun is a Taurus Slim 9m/m. Taurus doesn't have the greatest reputation but he has fired a lot of rounds through it and has had no problems at all, and prefers it over his beloved Glocks.

There are still P6's out there. I got one and am very impressed with it. You could also look at a Smith 39.

I have looked at the 39s and most of them are priced at collector value now, so I gave up on them.

They made the Colt Commander in 9mm. In fact that was the original caliber for the Commander due to it being submitted for a military trial that specified 9mm. (The Smith 39 was produced for the same trial).

I have a Combat Commander (with the steel frame) in 9mm. It used to be a real cheap gun to shoot, and isn't too bad now. Mags take nine rounds instead of seven or eight in the .45. Controls are the same as on my .45 ACP 1911 guns.

There are still some 9mm Commanders around. Prices are up but sometimes not as far up as the SIG prices you quoted.

They are releasing the Sig 225 again, I saw one in one of my shops this past weekend,they have German made frame, and slide.It was priced at $799.

You can pick up nice a SIG P239 for 500 to 550.
They are not the lightest, but shoot great.

A few months ago I shot a friends Walther PPS in 9mm.

I shot about 30 or so rounds through it and it worked and shot good.

I think S&W imports them.

The P6 SIG is a fine firearm. Some early dated ones made before if I can remember 1984? before they widend the feed ramp may not feed all makes of hollowpoints so that is a trial and error experiment. If your looking on the cheap say within a certain budget the Hi-point pistol in 9mm is a 8 or 10 shot capacity I believe and brand new under 2 bills. They have a good reliability reputation however their a blowback design and are heavier and bulky do to slide mass. -Good luck in your decision.

Try the auction sites or the classifieds, while some people are interested in the 39 and its offspring to collect, many aren't, and I'd be very surprised if a used 39-2 wearing Pachs couldn't be found for circa 350ish.

There are some P225's coming in from zurich right now that appear to be in excellent shape. Most of the P6's and 225's you peobably won't have any problem finding parts for long time. I bought one of the last P6's that came in from Germany and I have tighter grouping with it than any of my other 9's. It's a great pistol. Magazines can be a little hard to find and a bit on the spendy side when you do but over all a great pistol. I would trade my 5903 straight up for another one if I could find one. Check with top gun supply they may have some of these zurich pistols.

I'll second that. My carry gun is a 40 caliber P239 and the accuracy of this gun is simply amazing. I'm talking 1 inch groups at 30 feet amazing. Yeah, it was from a bench rest but the sight radius on a P239 isn't exactly long. It has also proven to be 100% reliable in over 1500 rounds downrange.

BTW, mine has Hogue rubber finger groove grips on it and with these grips it points perfectly and they also cures the front strap "bite" that is normal for the P239 with the factory grips. The front strap on the grip frame of the P239 is pretty flat and has some sharp corners on it that can "bite" a bit, so 20 bucks for the Hogues is a wise investment.

As for the price, IMO it's worth it if you can come up with the scratch. Because accuracy and reliability in a gun that is easy to conceal is worth spending a bit more. BTW, I would recomend getting a standard model with night sights. The SAS is a sweet looking gun but you really don't need the anti snag treatment on the P239 because it quite snag free in the standard configuration. In addition the P239 has enough muzzle flip that the SRT trigger isn't really of any benefit, you just can't hit well enough at the firing rate the SRT trigger allows. In addition, with a limited capacity, shooting really fast is just a good way to run out of ammo too soon. There, I've just knocked about 130 bucks off the price tag for you.

If you can find one used, plan on spending between 500 and 650, because they do command a premium. Also, on any used ones make sure you field strip it and check the frame for excess wear. Sig uses an anodized aluminum frame and they really need to be lubricated with grease, oil just won't do the job of keeping the frame from getting chewed up by the slide. Big areas of bare aluminum get a thumbs down, however light gray areas where the black dye is wearing through is NOT a problem and completely normal.

Another one to look for is the famous "Staple Gun", the HK P7M8. A fantastic and very slim 9mm with some very interesting features. One is that it's a squeeze cocker. Squeeze the grip and it cocks the gun, release that squeeze and the gun is uncocked and can't be fired. It also uses a gas recoil system and this results in a bore axis that is the lowest that can be found in a handgun. Muzzle flip is nearly non existant because of that low bore axis and the gas system results in a very soft recoil. It also results in a gun that isn't great as a range toy, after 50 rounds you'll have to let it cool down or the trigger will burn you. The only problem is they are a bit spendy, however shooters can occasionally be found for 460-550 bucks.

Can I get an amen for the H&K P7? Simply a fabulous pistol. Ultra reliable, ultra accurate, and ultra safe. Though I think "accuracy" is more a function of the shooter than any gun, the P7-M8 (or its double stack variant, the M13) is one sweet firearm. Just be sure to train with it thoroughly before any use as its manual of arms is significantly different than just about every other pistol. You will love it, though!

IMHO, the Kahr P9/CW9 is the shining star of the single-stack carry 9mm. It has good sights and trigger, good enough that I sometimes shoot IDPA/SSP with it for carry practice. It is the smallest, thinnest gun that I can hit with at a distance, unlike the mini point-and-shoot carry 9s.

The last one I saw in this forums classifieds was a 3913 w/8mags for under 600.00
I believe that's a fair price for 3rd gen perfection.

I found the Taurus 709 Slim to be a good little single stack. I had been hot rodding my Colt 380 Government model as I like a little more punch than a 380 has.

I know the reputation of the Taurus autos but I've shot this one a lot and it is very reliable. And the price is certainly better than a lot of the other ones mentioned here.

Now on the few occasions when I want a small slim auto for IWB this is the one I take.

You haven't mentioned your intended use. Among the single column mag 9mm's, I really like the Star BK series, reliable, thin, works like a pistol should (1911-style!). Swap the steel frame for an aluminum frame and you have the BKS.

I am surprised you can't find an affordable S&W Model 39 series pistol. A Model 39, 439, 539, 639, 908, 909, 3904, 3906, 3913, 3914, 3953, 3954 or CS-9 would all be compact, easy to grasp, safe, well-engineered pistols that you should be able to find one in your price range.

The OP didn't mention what his intended usage of the gun was. But I concur here, my current carry-gun is a Springfield Armory EMP in 9x19. It's a great little gun. Not inexpensive, however, you'll pay a grand for a new one and I doubt that used ones are all that easy to find. Another very sweet and superbly accurate 9x19 single-stack is the 952. But those are going to run well over the $1000 mark.

Buy a P6 and TRY to wear it out and need those parts.......

Even if you do, whatever you need will be readily available.

My intended use will be for a slim carry gun, I have looked at GB and GA and found the prices on the S&W single stacks about as high as the new Sigs.

I have not looked at the classifieds here.

I did look at a used P229 in 40 S&W yesterday as well as the Ruger, the Sig 229 was $550.00 I believe with one mag and holster, I believe it holds 12 rounds.

I am trying to stay away from Glocks for a bit, I tried to find 1911 style 9mm and they were few and far between. Shooter's had a 3913 and it lasted less than one day and was out the door.

I can get an excellt P225 for $439.95 +tax and BC or a model in decetnt condition for 100 less. I have a 220 in .38 super but it is the european mag release and I shoot that for fun.

Theres been a few reasonably priced 3913's in the classifieds here recently.....may still be one or two.

I've had my 3913 for a number of years. Carried it everyday and shot it a bunch. I've not yet had a need for any replacement parts, but if parts are a concern for you, there are a bunch for sale in the classifieds here as well. Enough to refurbish a couple of 3913's. There are also mags for a reasonable price too.

I have shot the baby Glocks, the Kahr's, the Sig 239, and the Springfield EMP. None of them matched the reliability of the 3913, and none concealed as easily and problem free, for me.

IMO the 3913 is the finest CCW single stack 9mm out there. Light weight, perfect size, thin, accurate, reliable and looks good doing all that.

You must not be looking at the same ads I've seen. If I saw an ad for a S&W 39xx for $900, I'd ask the seller if I was getting two or three for the price.

You should have no trouble getting most S&W 39xx series guns for $500 or less used. Maybe a little more if you want a 7 shot TSW, or something off the wall.
