Betcha Bo might bristle a little if someone told him "you didn't build that."

Looks like a great place to be a regular customer. I don't have a place like that to shop but I do have 3 local gun stores that treat me well.

I did a job in a nearby town (Thomaston, Ga.) and made several trips to this store. Lots of stock and very nice people. The pics don't do it justice.

Oh my God that place was amazing. It took me a while to take it all in, in fact I never got to take it all in as I was in a hurry to get back to work. Yup 4 hours in the car, about 40 minutes in the store. Got to meet Bo, Mitch, and another lady. They were very kind and I thanked them many times over for holding the gun (without payment for a week) for a complete stranger that had never been there before. It's a shame I work for an FFL holder and get my stuff at cost, otherwise I would buy from them. Which isn't too far over cost. My XBolt was Medallion was $749 our cost, bought it retail from Bo for $799. They told me from now anytime I want something, they'd be glad to ship it to me. He seems to have more in stock than Ellett Brothers or Bangers (our distributors)

Bo, Ann (his wife), and I actually had that conversation Monday. I had to buy a new Snapper mower, and Bo helped me get it on the truck while Ann was doing the paperwork. We had a good laugh (it doesn't help to cry) over that statement. Bo started his business in 1968. He is there every morning at 7:00AM. He usually closes the store. He has a son and a daughter who have the same work ethic. He will be 70 in the spring. He has some fairly serious health problems. He still does a lot of the manual labor that is necessary in a store like that. He built his business, and he is still building it. He is just one great example of what hard work and determination can do for a family.

I might have mentioned it earlier in this thread, but Bo once asked Jimmy Carter to leave the store. Carter came in with his Secret Service entourage. He wanted Bo to sell him half a box of .22 long rifle, or half a box of shotgun shells, I forget which. Bo told him he would appreciate it if he left with his group so his paying customers could get their stuff.

I smell a road trip coming up shortly. I think it's only about 1-1 1/2 drive from me. We'll make it a family day.

Someone oughta email NAPA and let them know that this is the desired 'model' of a perfect NAPA store.

Wow, there is a LOT of inventory there! Those cases for the handguns are just PACKED.

It would be dangerous for me to go in there.

When I first moved to San Antonio, nearby me was a transmission repair shop which sold guns, mainly milsurp. The business is still there, but no guns. In most parts of the country, any retailer who wanted to sell guns and ammunition still could. Back when I was living in Laredo TX some 25 years ago, just about every retailer downtown sold ammunition. I think most of it ended up walking over the Rio Grande bridge to Nuevo Laredo. I had a Winchester ammo sales rep tell me that Laredo had the highest per-capita Winchester ammo sales in the country.

My nephew, who does the technology stuff for the pawn shop chain I work for
just spent several weeks helping Bo get his operation computerized. He said
they have more than 13,000 guns in inventory.

Tarheel state here and, never saw a NAPA that handled anything but auto parts in my area. Guess you feel like you've gone to heaven when you go there. However when I was a kid I bought my first new shotgun from Western Auto. It is a Stevens 410 and If I remember right I paid around $45.00 for it new. I still have it. Didn't need to have any purchase permit for it and if memory serves me I was only about 10 maybe 11 at the time and, I saved up for it and laid it away and paid for it a little at the time.

We have some very good friends living in Atlanta that we are planning to visit this spring, I see a trip south of there in my future! I will have to ask them when I call today if they are familiar with that town, they have lived in Atlanta for over 40 years so I bet they are. Thanks for the post, I do love small towns, friendly folks and well stocked gun shops...uh I mean auto parts stores.

When I was at Auburn University in the '70s, I would go over to the county seat, Opelika, and shop at Story's Groceries. Like many a small southern store, they had food stuffs, some hardware and a few rifles and shotguns. I bought a Winchester 9422 and a Marlin 1895 in .45-70 there. One of Mr Story's employees nudged him into expanding the guns. Over the years they added handguns, collector knives, reloading gear and holsters. They also expanded to add a line of auto parts.

The store opened at 5 AM and closed at midnight. How many places can you go to at 11 PM and buy a loaf of bread, powder and primers and a muffler for your truck???

A guy I know runs a very good NAPA parts and service center near here. He recently got his FFL and started selling. I've been using him for transfers but haven't purchased a gun through him yet. Every time I price a new firearm through the Davidson's online offer process his offers come up the least expensive. He's doing real well with it. There was a longtime Guns and Booze place in Flagstaff AZ called Ruff's. They're still there as a sporting goods store but I don't think they sell liquor any more. I could be wrong though, they might.

When I was growing up every hardware store sold guns, and ammo. A few grocery stores sold a few guns, and almost every gas station sold ammo. But all this was before the 68 GCA.

There is a butcher shop in Moncure, NC that will order guns still.

Much to my regret, I married one of those Hot Georgia women. She was hot though, for about 10 minutes. One of my most enjoyable vacations was at 6 Flags with my Ohio born 2nd wife. That one is a keeper.

Bo Barrow and his family are great folks and have bought several pcs
From them over the years. I'm an hr south of them and hunted their area several yrs
Weekend highlight was trip from hunting camp into town to eat and visit Bo's store.
