Default Shipping handguns to yourself interstate?

I have read that of course, this is legal federally (not in all states)- to ship a handgun to yourself, from yourself interstate where legal. For instance, if you were traveling to another state, and ship it to a person in "C/O" and no one can open it but yourself. Say I want to go to Alaska, and I know someone that will receive it and hold the box for me...

My question is, since most of the time UPS wants to see an FFL, has anyone run into problems doing this?

My question is why not just carry it with you when you go there? Why take a chance on it being lost or damaged in shipment?

As to shipping it to yourself, I am not sure but think that may only apply to hunting weapons.

Canada.

To answer your question below and not take up more bandwidth, this old mountain feller is afraid of drowning.
Plus, I wouldn't enjoy a boat ride like that. I'm going to drive it, if my plans go well.

So board a boat in WA and travel to AK by way of open ocean.

I see why you need to ship and hope you will be able to do so but I solved the problem with Canada by staying out of their country. When I go to AK, I fly and then rent a car there.

I'd be interested to hear an answer to this question. I'm thinking of flying to AK next year, but there's always the possibility of a load going up that way, which means going through Canada. The ferry is several thousand dollars round trip for a truck.

I shipped a couple to Alaska in the past. I had my brother find me an FFL who would be willing to receive and hold it for me. Some will do it for free since up there, a lot of people have little use for Canada and all it's BS rules and regs. I talked to many people up there when I lived there who felt that way.

Even if you have to give an FFL a few bucks just to receive it for you, it's worth it IMO, so that you can have it when you arrive.

What you propose to do is legal,,and UPS allows for a non-FFL to ship a firearm if it's ok by Fed, State & Local regs.

UPS regs say you don't need an FFL to ship in some instances as allowed by law. The last sentence of their 'shipping firearms' reg is:
".....and from and between persons not otherwise prohibited from shipping firearms by federal, state or local law and when such shipment complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws applicable to the shipper, recipient and package."

UPS: Shipping Firearms

Getting them to even admit that it exists in their book of rules, much less someone there that understands what it is says is another matter. Plus you'll most likely have to show them that by current law it's legal to do the shipment .

They have 'FFL only' on the mind when you walk in there generally.

Thumbs up You are correct

The scenario you describe is perfectly legal. I will not go into details to protect the innocent.

It was my understanding that you could ship to yourself, and they will hold it for you until you come pick it up. Same with USPS and long guns. Can anyone confirm that?
