Letter of Authenticity ?
Is it possibe to get a complete history on this pistol if I sent it in to a S&W appraiser. I want to get a nice display case and maybe a letter of authenticity or something to go in the display with the pistol. Jeff
I have pictures on my other post in Antiques

You can get a historical letter from the factory. Mr. Roy Jinks, the Historian for Smith & Wesson will research and document your gun for a fee of $50.
Here is a link to the form you need:

Picture will help Roy, I don't think he accepts guns to look at. What you will get is, when it was shipped, where it was shipped to and what it looked like when it left the factory such as finish, barrel length, style and wood of grips etc.
If you are looking for a so called history of the gun once it left the factory, there is none.

If the gun was ever government issue, there is a service that will research it for you, and possibly give some in service history for the gun as well.
They conduct all their business by mail now (used to have a web presence). The company was called Springfield research, or historical something.
I have never used them, but they do have extensive databases they can use.
And they aren't cheap ($50 is cheap).
Maybe someone here can give you the contact info.

Turn around time?
Anyone know how long it takes to get something lettered by Mr Jinks? I just sent in a request for a 629 Jovino and was wondering it was weeks or months to get a reply.
