Having Trouble Getting Into My P/U
I have a Ford 150 Crew Cab with 4WD. It sits high above the ground. The running boards are first rate, but I'm having trouble raising my leg high enough to get into the cab - I have medical issues.
I've been searching the net and there appear to be a few options:
1. A step stool like the conductor used to use on passenger trains.
2. A handle that attaches to the door latch and provides an area for gripping. I saw three different models.
3. A step stool with a handle about 30+ inches above the platform.
There are probably other choices. My concerns are:
Load rating (I'm heavy)
Ease of use when I'm alone. (How to get it in & out of the truck)
Cost. I don't want to spent an awful large amount of money if I don't have to.
Any suggestions?

Trade?
Many new trucks are so high you can't even see what is in the bed, let alone lift and load from the side.
You can climb in this one:
Well, thanks for the "likes". Let me tell a bit more. The truck is an early '55, original except for the modern tires and wheels. We are prairie dogging on a grass airstrip. It is where I made an especially long 22 shot. I hunt it every year. The tall fella is an ex NYC motorcycle patrolman...the best offhand shot I have ever met.

Been There-Done That. Went to a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 that still had everything I really needed in a truck but was much lower /comfortable. Been in love for the last 7 years now.

If my clothes don't stop shrinking so much, I may soon have trouble getting into any vehicle.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that. Will have to look into this.
Thanks.

Plastic crate with a rope tied to it, that way you can pull the crate in once you're seated.

Is your issue stepping from the ground to the running board, or from the running board to the cab itself?
Lincoln Navigators had retractable running boards. Perhaps one could be created that started out low to the ground and raised up to cab level once you were on board.

What ever you do will be cheaper than a busted butt when you slip or fall to the ground ! A badly dented hip can get right pricey these days. And healing takes a lot longer !
Talk is cheap when you own a 2WD Chevy Colorado .

Would the CARR Super Hoop Steps be any lower than your running boards?

There are parts of Texas where doing that to a pick up truck is a capital offense.

If you think your medical issues are likely to continue, it might be time for a different vehicle. Not what you want hear, I'm sure, but something to think about.

Build a wooden box what ever size you need to get in with a piece of plywood covering the top. I made mine out of 2x6'S on edge, turned them on their side and installed the plywood. 12x16x6. Then used a piece of paracord on two sides to pull it up into the truck when I am by myself. Also you can purchase a step from a campers supply that attaches to the bottom of your door and fits under your truck so when you open the door the step pulls out and when you close the door the step goes under the truck.($75.00) Good Luck
