Default Hawaii Five-O

My wife and I just watched the new one. We're figuring that Hess is gonna be the new Wo Fat.
Does anyone remember if they ever caught Wo Fat in the original series?

I saw it last night and predict a short life of this series, I thought it was pretty bad.

Thanks, keep forgetting about Wiki.

The new show was pretty good but we're not sure that the new guy playing McGarrett is up to snuff. We'll see.

Wiki is not a credible source, but coupled with the youtube clip, I 'spect you can trust Wo Fat fell to his nemesis.....
As far as the NEW show, forget it, I can't make myself watch it

I remember that the original was a bit more than a little anti-gun.

That rings a bell so I searched and found something about Jack Lord being very anti-gun and when Elvis (a fan of Lord's) met him and gave him a gold plated gun which Lord apparently excepted just to be polite.

The original show is one of my all time favorites (the theme song is my cell phone ring tone).
I really liked this one but not on the same level as the original.

I extrrmely disliked them having to show a half naked woman in her underwear /swimsuit. In my opinion that was not needed in this or any show. Because of that my son will not be watching it, and I will be keeping my finger on the FF button (I record it as I go to bed at 8:00 at night).

Lord was among the most anti-gun actors in Hollywood, at least as much so as Michael Douglas.

I kind of liked it. I'm glad they kept that fantastic opening score, and James Caan's kid is interesting to watch. I also liked the nod to the original with the big black Mercury under the tarp in the garage.

I wish I worked for a department where you can get shot, kill somebody, and still drive away from the scene 15 minutes later bantering with the new boss.

Wonderful. My other favorite tv show was "The Streets of San Fransisco".

I agree that the scene with the girl stripping down to her underwear was gratuitous and necessary. I would have been very offended, if she wasn't so hot... I do understand your comments, as I would not want my young son seeing that either, but he's in bed early, and I'm up late...

Overall, I thought the show was pretty good. Good action, but too violent. I actually liked the 'new Jack Lord' guy. Scott Caan was typically a little too much (little guy syndrome...?), but still likable. So, overall IMO, good, but not great.

Missed the show, but it is nice to see Grace Park working again. She was a big character in the Battlestar Galactica series on SciFi. One night when I was watching the show my wife made a comment in a voice dripping with sarcasm, "Hmm, cute girl with a gun and her own spaceship; what's not to like". Hey, it works for me.

I had originally banned the show from my television because of Jack Lord, extended the ban to the new one as well, and yes I am pig headed!

If the producers had gone on with the title and new young characters with different names, and maybe an oriental lead. I'd give it a shot.

As it is, I've had a belly full of "reimaging" shows.

Not to go off topic, but I watched the series and it was terrible. I guess the half shaven look and the shirt tails hanging out is the thing now. The acting was terrible. I do not think it will last very long.

You're probably wrong. A police drama set in Hawaii (important), nubile young women, beautiful scenery .....formula for success.

Remember, the networks are going after the 18-49 age group, which most of us ain't.

I agree.

How many remakes of Dragnet have been tried (and failed) over the years?

Some shows are not broke and should not be fixed and should be left in the times they were created. I'm quite sure Honolulu PD doesn't drive blue and white Fords with a single blue Federal 174 light on the roof anymore!

When Jack Lord died, so did Steve McGarrett.
When Jack Webb died, so did Sgt. Joe Friday.
The list goes on and on.

If it is a "reimagining" of an old show, I avoid it like the plague and don't waste my time. I WASN'T a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica, either.

I'm young enough to fall into this age group and old enough to remember watching the original. This was only the first episode and I thought it was okay, I'll give a few more before I decide.

As for the girl, cute enough but she was so skinny she looks like she is only a few hours away from needing a I.V drip to keep her from malnutrition.

That is the numero uno requirement for ANY woman to appear on TV. Are you new? My wife asked me to comment on the girls on a recent beauty pageant on TV. I said I would take them all out just so they could get a decent meal.

There are some shows that cannot be re-made.

Barney Miller, Taxi, F Troop, too many to mention.

I never miss a rerun of 5-O, like to watch for future stars.

The sniper and "Saturday Night Special" episodes of the original were VERY anti-gun. Though the guy spelling out "MOM" inside a heart of spent shell casings in the former was a nice touch.

I've been to Hawaii. Lots of women walking around with flesh exposed. Eh. Probably healthier for a kid to see that than someone getting shot.

Anyway, I'll finish watching it online at some point, my DVR failed me for some reason.

The story was OK and managed to hold my attention. However I'm beginning to think that O'laughlin (SP?) is NOT the guy to play McGarrrett. The scene where he hung the bad guy off the side of the building just came off as flat and unconvincing. No intensity to this new guy.

I agree. Too much "do whatever" to be believable. I know this is TV, but I'd like my shows to have at least a little "reality possibility".

I DVR it and watch when I can. Last weeks episode was good enough to keep me interested for a while longer. I was beginning to get bored. I will say for a final time that O'Laughlin and Caan are both mediocre actors and have no chemistry. Skinny Miss Park is OK in my book. She's built a lot like my wife.

That's my impression. I can hardly follow the show it is so boring, and the slob appearance thing doesn't help.

It has been so long I had forgotten Jack Lord was overtly anti-gun. Always amazing to me how these acting types still find it acceptable to profit from things they find so offensive. Mr. Lord hasn't been the only one.

I really only watch it for Grace Park...it's OK with my wife, since she really only watches it for the guy who plays McGarret.
On last weeks show, the two of them decide to go swimming to look for clues...as they strip, I say to my wife "Ah, a good reason for Grace to take her clothes off"...My wife answers..."and for him to take his shirt off..."

I like the old one. Haven't seen the new one. A couple of years ago I bought two seasons of the old one on DVD. It's fun.

I get a kick out of how McGarett is always wearing his blue suit, buttoned, and running everywhere he goes, young Dano on his heels. I wonder if he took it off when he went to bed, or if he ever had it cleaned?

I was never in Hawaii in the '60s, but nowadays I don't think I've ever seen anyone in a suit, the decade or so I've been going to Hawaii. Formal attire is an aloha shirt, long pants, and socks and shoes.

Does the new guy still say, "Book 'em, Dano!?"

I have all the old stuff on DVD. Have not watched the new one and probably won't. I understand Jack Lord and Elvis were pals. He gave him and nicely engraved Walther PPK one time because Jack Lord carried one in the first James Bond movie(Dr No). In the winter when I don't have my son I will do Five O weekends. Lay in some food, bourbon and beer. Watch as many seasons as I can in the lazy boy while eating and sipping away. It ain't pretty and yes I have my Chief Special dry firing it the entire time..

Haven't missed an episode yet, and just watched the season finale (I have to tape it).

Any thoughts on the next season's opening show?

I started Tivo-ing it about halfway through and waited until I had pretty much the whole season recorded. I kinda like it. Not great, but OK. It's like an hour long Chevy commercial.

They were fans of each other's work. And you're right about the PPK gift, it was gold plated.

Been watching the new season. Still good.

I think Kono is working undercover for IA, and the visit at her house was the invite. She will be back in 5-O I'm guessing.
