Hi:
Is there a "Waiting Period" for handgun sales from the day of purchase to the day of pickup?
Thank you,
Jimmy

That 10 days also applies to long guns..so your money is gone for 10 days and all you have is a promise that at the end you will have a gun..and sometimes even that doesn't work out..

If I may ask, is there a waiting period when the sale is between individuals?

All handgun sales must be done through an FFL. Pretty sure applies to long guns as well.

240 hours. Some shops mark the time, some make ya wait 11 days...

Unless it's a couple homies down in National City. They don't have a waiting period...

Just one more reason to thank the good Lord, that I don't live in California. Bless your hearts, all you folks that put up with that insanity.

There's an end-run process that some Californians can use. If you have an 01 or 03 FFL (and maybe other classes, too, but I'm not sure), you can get from the California Dept. of Justice a Certificate of Exemption. That is essentially a "pre-screening" approval that lets you take the gun home the day you pay for it. It also relieves you of compliance with the one-gun-every-30-days rule. As a C&R licensee with a backup COE from the state, I have several times in the last year bought several guns at the same time and walked out with them the same day I registered and paid for them.

It's almost like living in Alaska or Arizona or Arkansas or ...

A totally silly requirement if one already owns a firearm. But logic never held sway with legislators and and nanny-staters.

I was told that this is only true for C&R firearms, not modern ones.

The C&R/COE does allow one to purchase more than a single new handgun within a 30 day period though.

Concur: I buy only C&R firearms, so I wasn't even thinking about guns manufactured more recently. If I wanted to buy a firearm of recent manufacture, I'd be looking at a 10-day hold. But if I wanted to buy lots of recent firearms, I could pick them all up on the 11th day without running afoul of the one per 30 day rule.

There are a number of shops with my C&R and COE on file around the Southern California area. Several have permitted me to cash and carry modern handguns due to the COE while other shops make me wait. The cash and carry of any handgun in California does raise an eyebrow or two in crowded shops, I have heard others complaining that they can't take their gun while I could as I walked out the door.

I understood it to be a "cooling off" period. Had the opposite effect with me, having to wait 10 days because of this idiotic law. Heh, who they trying to kid, the real intent is to make gun ownership a pain in the butt end.
