I 70 Road Trip
My wife and I will be taking a road trip from Denver to Columbus, Ohio in early November (my wife's birthday and she wants to spend time with her sister there).
Any suggestions on stops to make or things to see to break up the trip?
Not really interested in museums or seeing some famous person's old house.

You might notice that the trees on the South side of I-70 between Salina,KS and Topeka,KS are taller than the trees on the North side. My ex-father-in-law was a trucker and his wife packed a whole box of prunes in his lunchbox for him to nibble on.
True story. He said he spent more time in the bushes than he did on the road.
Have a safe trip.
John

You didn't ask, but if you will be carrying, before crossing into the "great" state of Illinois, unload your weapon, and put it into a locked container in your trunk. I also advise not stopping in East St. Louis (IL) you might need your weapon there, but it will be locked in the trunk. If you can see the Arch, you are too close to stop. Just my opinion.....

There is a good Cabella's just west of KC, MO about a 1/2 mile off 70. Regarding the advice on Illinois, he is correct, there is no CCW in IL, and stay as far from East St Louis as possible.

Just west of Cabellas and the Kansas Speedway is the Agriculture Hall of Fame. Be sure and stop since these are your only chances to see anything interesting in Kansas.

You have already seen all the good stuff. It is on your end of the trip. Probably the best place close to Columbus is Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. Yes there is a museum there. But it is awesome!! Tom.

Gas up in Missouri, it's way cheaper than KS or IL. Look up mainstreet St. Charles, MO. Great food and a very good Micro Brewery with good food. Spend the night in St. Charles if it is a stopping point. Gas up in St. Charles and don't slow down in East STL. The speed limit is lower in IL. Folks are right about unloaded and locked in the trunk when in IL. Il Lawmen will take you away. There is a Bass Pro close to Main Street right on I 70. Unless you just want to drive through the middle of STL the best way is to take 270 north. Follow it and it turns into I 70 on the other side. You miss East St. Louis, you drive through North County, don't stop there either.
