Technically, it would be the Hi-Point. If you read the manual, it advises against taking it down to clean it, and suggests just running a bore snake through it.

Beyond that, Berettas 92s, Sig 22x, and Glocks are all pretty much idiot proof. Well... you do have to remember to not have a round in the chamber of your Glock since stripping it involves dry firing, so maybe it isn't quite idiot proof....

I've never taken down an Smith M&P auto or an XD, but don't imagine that it is any harder.

1911s sometimes benefit from one or more special tools.

simply put,any of the newer plastic guns are easy to pop the slide and get back together in a hurry.and the best part is you don't have to do that to often.

I own about 2 dozen auto pistols from Lugers to Sigs , and any Browning-type pistol is the simplest. Sigs , CZ-75 , Star 28/30/31 , Browning Hi-Power , Colt 1911 , etc.

Don't own a Glock , but it and any of it's clones are ultra simple.

The Beretta 9x series are extremely easy to field strip... so easy in fact that they had to slightly change the design of the takedown lever so that somebody at close proximity to you couldn't remove the slide before you could react.

HK P7! Just push the button under the slide, retract slightly and lift up and forward. That's it!

Anything based on the Walther PP or it's clones. Just pull down the trigger guard, pull the slide to the rear, lift the back up and run it foward.

I'd have to agree with Badkarma 1 and Mkk41 about the HK squeezecockers and Browning Hi-Powers. I can field strip and re-assemble either blindfolded. Don't know about Tupperware because I have never owned any plastic guns.

My H&Ks seem about the easiest. A little time with most & the manual & you will be fine.

Glocks are as simple as it gets. For those of us with good taste, the Browning High Power.

Sigma is certainly simple enough. Push a couple of buttons and the slide comes off.

As mentioned, they are all easy especially the Glocks cause you don't need to clean them as they are perfect. Just throw them in the wash.

Sigs are my favorite to field strip.

I own a 20 year old sig p220 and I think its the easiest of all my handguns to strip and clean. Second would have to be my ppk. My 1911's aren't hard, but they do take longer. hardest would be my kimber 3 inch compact 1911.

Oh, suuuuuurrre.
Just joking.
My little Beretta U-22 is super easy.
So is my sub-gun a Raven .25 auto.
As a matter of fact, I can even do it.

Red face put all the parts back in though

In my first reply to this thread, I quoted barbc and tried to be funny. One of the guns I listed as being super easy to fieldstrip and clean, was a Raven .25. And I added, trying to be like barb, that, "even I could do it". But I did not say I could do it right!
I carry that little gun in an Uncle Mikes Sidekick nylon holster when I am mowing, weed eating, cutting firewood or wherever I think I could run in to a snake, of which I have many.
It gets full of **** every time, dust, grass and the lining from the holster, so every time I get ready to carry it, I clean it. Just quick disassembly and wipe out the big chunks, and a shot of rem oil.
Took it mushroom hunting in the middle of snakeland USA. Never saw a single snake. The next morning I got up and stepped on something with my bare feet..........firing pin.
Glad I didn't see any copperheads that day.

I'll just say that it's so easy,
Even I can screw it up
Peace,
gordonski

A 1911 is right in there- at least a good mil-spec or vintage Colt- it has a few more pieces, but with practice it can go together easy enough.

The 1911 probably isn't the easiest to field strip, but it's easy. The main advantage of this pistol is that you can take it down to the very last part with no tools. Try that with any of the more modern guns - tiny springs & parts, special tools, complex mechanisms, etc.

Go here: The Sight's M1911 .45 ACP Page

Then click on Library.

Then click on Technical.

Then click on the top article (I wrote it): The 1911 Pistol is its own toolbox.

Piece of cake once you've done it a few times.

John

The 1911 isn't the easiest to field strip, but like Paladin said, it's the easiest to break down to the frame and re-assemble for detailed cleaning. Most all of the double action crunchentickers are not recommended for take-down past basic field stripping to separate slide, frame, barrel and recoil spring.

Mousetrap springs, detents, gizmo clip-type springs, and independent pins and such that require a special tool or jig to place properly - too much to go wrong - that's why they don't recommend it and advise just holding it over a trash can and dousing it with Gunscrubber from an aerosol can . . . .

I like the fact that I can clean, replace, polish, upgrade, etc. every piece on a 1911 if I so desire and keep enough spare parts (easily found and acquired) on hand to keep it running forever.

John Moses Browning was a visionary and a stone genius, conceptualizing this platform and bringing it to fruition. And after 100 years, there are plenty of other choices out there but nothing I've found that does the job it was designed to do much better. If you look at the evolution of any of the popular handguns of just the last 50 years, the only ones that have not changed much at all are the 1911's and Hi-Powers. Pretty much in the same form they've always been, not allowing for fancy finishes and better sights.

Some folks don't like 'em, but I personally believe that anyone who considers himself (or herself) a serious handgunner needs at least one 1911

50-50 between my Browning digi-camo Mark III, or my Eaa Witness all-steel pistols. Clear weapon, drop magazine, move slide to index, remove slide release lever, move slide assy. forward to disengage from grip assy. Within slide assy., remove spring -WATCH ORIENTATION, remove barrel. Clean away! To re-assemble, go backwards. done!

I have semi autoloaders from about every gun maker. For me, the easiest is a 1911. I can disassemble and re-assemble one blindfolded (had to be able to do so in the Army back in the early 60s). It does not matter which brand since the 1911 is a 1911 no matter who made it.
