Pet Guns?
I have been fortunate enough to have been able to buy, sell, and trade, as well as accumulate a fair number of guns over the years. Most were pretty decent guns. Most of them spend most of the time unused, locked in the safe. There are a few, that for some reason, I become attached to and are used frequently. They somehow fit me. I am not sure what causes this to happen. It is not condition or brand. The best way I can describe it is usefulness. Several years ago I traded for a Series 70 Colt Government Model 1911. It was in 85% or so condition and wore a pair of ratty old Pachmyer grips. It also had a full length guide rod and had been fitted with Micro sights. I replaced the split barrel bushing with a fitted one from Ed Brown and replaced the full length guide rod with a factory one. I also replaced the springs, installed a longer trigger, and replaced the barrel link and pin. The only thing else that I did was to put on a set of smooth walnut Colt grips that I had and darken the worn areas with Oshpo. It has become one of the pet guns that I described above. It is more accurate than I am and I can't remember the last time it jammed. I have several other 1911s but this is the one I usually take to the range. Do any of you have guns like this?

Model 640-1 has become the gun I reach for in the morning when I put my britches on.
When I go to the ranch, I trade up to a Dan Wesson 10mm in CCO configuration. Might need a little more horsepower out there.

For rimfire duties, no question, my Ruger Mk II Target is it. Gun fits me like a glove. Sadly, after 25 years and a couple hundred thousand rounds, it no longer shoots like a laser and has been replaced with a Kimber 1911 .22 lr for target duties. It is an old friend that will always be with me though.
Carry guns, it had been a Glock G17 for 10 years, but a SR9 is actually the fits like a glove 9mm for me and has mostly replaced the G17 for all but GSSF competition (obviously!).

My "pet" gun is a Ruger Blackhawk 357 stainless. A few years ago I was servicing my hog traps and left the gun/holster on the tailgate of my truck. Between various trap locations it fell off. I looked everywhere, but it was lost for good. Two years later I found it in the pasture, covered in dried mud and cow hillary. The gun was in very good condition - even the leather holster only needed a good cleaning and oiling. Now, it's my long lost friend and pet.

Replacing the barrel might bring it back to it's youth. Clark has Mk II "takeoff" barrels at very reasonable prices. See

I thought you meant Pet guns
For the cat a well placed .22 ought to do it-for the dog I'm thinking .45 (he weighs 100#'s)

I was thinking of a PacLite barrel, but you may have provided a more appropriate solution.

Either my 642 or 67. Both of them just shoot 'right'.

I have a model 66 that I am fond of. I used to carry it but found a gun I love a lot more. The 66 is not for sale but I doubt I will ever fire it again. I wipe it down regularly and it remains loaded but it is not the gun I will go for when a need is there.

I've a 38-2 "Bodyguard", that is with me most always. It is a better church goer than I am: as it never sleeps through sermons!
