Default Storage?

Loaded and unattended firearms in your house? I wonder if any of you leave a loaded gun in your house. Not in a safe.

Yes, it's called the "bedside gun". It wouldn't do me much good to be 3 stories downstairs, unloaded and locked up in a safe.

I keep loaded guns in a few of those small, quick access, lock boxes that are made for getting at a gun in a hurry. There are ones out there now that scan your fingerprint and pop open. I also want to get one of those lock-cuffs that are out there now for shotguns, looks like a good way to keep one handy...

I am not a fan of leaving unsecured loaded guns around the house. I've got kids, and kids' friends. Also there are some pretty nasty laws in place if, God forbid, anything ever happens with a minor and an unsecured gun.

I think I would like to secure it to the back of the chest next to the bed side chest of drawers. The chest would set out from the wall just about six inches my hand would just fit in and grab it. Maybe mount a holster on the back of the chest? I have used a lock box and tried the finger print safe...just takes to long. What do you think?

Try wearing one on your person. Keeps it handy if you need it.

Illegal in this state (pending possible conflict with Heller case), and I don't do it. I simply carry all the time. No problem.

Until proven otherwise, every gun in our house, in our cars, on our property or on our persons is fully loaded and will fire with a single pull of the trigger.

dryrider - The question might be a candidate for an anonymous poll, but in an open forum like this, the data is definitely going to be skewed.

Unless I am in a forbidden area, there is *always at least one loaded gun within arm's reach*.

Where exactly that is will be my little secret.

All firearms are treated as loaded at all times.
Every one is under control direct control.

I keep an Remington 870 loaded beside my bed. My loaded concealed carry gun is either on me or under my mattress. I also carry a loaded handgun in the console of my car. Since I live in Texas and have a concealed carry license all of this is legal. Everything else that I own is unloaded and locked up in my safe.

There is some concern that a burglar would have your loaded gun and you walk in on him. I have my handguns handy and the magazine very close so that I can be loaded by the time my gun is in my hand, but hopefully the burglar would not find the magazine and the gun. A magazine can be taped on the side of the bed (not saying mine is). Also, some experienced officers train to have a gun 3 to 4 feet from the bed, so you will not shoot a family member in a nightmare, or if you were delireous with fever from the flu. Just something to think about. The great thing about America is.....you can make your own decision.

Heck, I don't just have a loaded gun within reach at night, I have an entire rig. It's outfitted with spare mags, surefire flashlight, combat knife, field holster, cell phone, and zip ties (instant cuffs). I put the gun back into lockdown when I wake up in the morning before I wake the kids. If they come in my house, I hope to send them out in fashion.

The guns aren't loaded but the speedloaders are, old 180 grain .357 Black Talons or Federal 125 grain JHPs...As far as you know.

I have no loaded guns in the house that are not locked up. Except the one in my pocket, and when I go to bed it's placed in the nightstand.
