Default VOTE.

The midterm elections are less than two weeks away as I write this. Perhaps it goes without saying, but I am going to say it anyway. VOTE.

I won't pretend to try to tell you how to vote, but VOTE.

If you don't, you leave the future direction of this country in someone else's hands.

You good folks are some of the most level-headed and knowledgeable people on the planet. You know right from wrong, and you know truth from falsehood. I know that you have the capability to study the key issues and the candidates' stance on those issues. I'm pretty sure most of you are putting together a "cheat sheet" that you will take with you to the polls to be sure you vote as your studying tells you will be best. In some states, you can even vote for judges, and their records are more often than not on line for you to view. Initiative issues are sometimes fraught with rhetoric on both sides. I'm sure you will sift through the claims and counter-claims and decide on what's best, not only for you, but for your city, state and country. But deciding is not enough. You must VOTE.

Your vote doesn't count? Think again. In recent times, elections have been won by the thinnest of margins. Every vote counts and must be counted. Improper or fraudulent voting must be challenged. There are those who would counter your vote with a vote by Mickey Mouse. If such fraud is suspected, it should be challenged and fought to the full extent of the law. Graveyard residents and comic book characters have no place at YOUR polls. So VOTE and support all efforts against voter fraud or intimidation.

The future of this country is, and always should be in the hands of we, the people. "We the people" is, and always should be, at the top of any political organization chart. The politicians report to YOU, not the other way around. So get out there and tell them what to do. VOTE.

If a friend or neighbor cannot make it to the polls on his or her own, volunteer to take him or her. If you are sick or lack transportation, figure out a way to get there anyway. There should be NO excuse.

VOTE. And God bless the United States of America.

John

I vote on election day, generally about 9 am. I hang around out front for a while and shoot the breeze with the campaigners. I disagree with early voting, mail voting and on demand absentee voting. Too much fraud. I'd be in favor of purple finger dye or thumb print recognition, anything that would assure an honest vote. If the vote is close, conservatives always lose.

Allowing 18 yr. olds to vote was the death of unbiased elections. The only 18 yr. olds that vote (for the most part) are the masses of kids hypnotized by the liberal professors in college.

So, our troops stationed overseas should not be allowed to vote by mail? Where did you find that in the constitution?

Some will vote often, some who are not citizens will vote, even the dead will raise from their graves and vote in certain parts of the country. That is part of the problem, the vote is not always honest, nor is it always one man, one vote; and, there are too many laws intended to keep it that way.

It always amazes me how few people get out and vote. They don't realize what privilage it is to be able to exercise the right.

Not what he said.
He disagrees with everyone being able to get an absentee ballot, as in "on demand absentee voting".

Vote smart and study their voting records if they're incumbent. To do otherwise is dangerous.
I'm sure most here are pretty in tune as to how it works.

I should have made that exception. I think military vote should count double.

It's the wholesale, bus the voter in, activist **** that I'm against. The Cincinnati public school just bused students to the early voting polls, showed them only sample ballots with democrat candidates and bought them ice cream as a reward. That is wrong!

I'll burn up a little more bandwidth and tell you how the vote goes in my hometown. Fire Chief is in charge of the mayor's campaign and firemen bring in hundreds of absentee ballots. They hit nursing homes, retirement homes, and make sure their extended families vote. Huge advantage to being the incumbent, and it seems like they all have larceny at heart.

20 years ago an absentee ballot meant a trip to the courthouse voter registration office and filling out paperwork saying you were legitimately out of the county on election day. It didn't have to be notarized or anything but you did have to make some effort. If you were homebound, you called in and an absentee vote crew made up of a rep from each party came to your home and recorded your vote. There was dignity to the voting process and that decorum has been polluted now.

"Vote and the choice is yours. Don't vote and the choice is theirs."
Yes, each vote does count. Bush won Florida in 2000 by what-537 votes.
John F. Kennedy won the 1960 Election by only about 100,000 votes,
in 1981 Thomas Kean won the NJ Gubernatorial Election by only about 1700 votes.

Dems are bringing bus loads of kids to DC for early voting and feeding them ice cream after.
The problem with early voting is the ballots are handled by scoundrels.Less chance of scoundrels messing with ballots at the polls as there are more eyes watching.

Doublesharp, if I am going to vote, it almost always has to be absentee. I go down to the county office and apply either one election or one year at a time. If you choose the one year route, they will send you a form for the next year that has to be signed, notarized, and mailed in. My ballot envelope has to be notarized, or it will not be counted. It's a good thing my wife is a notary, or it would cost me a lot of money just to be able to vote.

I don't know how things work in your neck of the woods, but it seems to me you are complaining in the wrong place. If you want to reform the system, you need to start by talking to your State representative and senator.

doublesharp,

I'm sorry that the absentee system seems suspect in your area. It's not in mine. Careful safeguards are built into the system here; what your firemen are doing would not be allowed. It also greatly alleviates the burden on Election Day. Several years ago, before "absentee-on-demand" became permissible, this state had lines in some precincts so long that many people had to leave before they were able to vote in order to get to work on time. We're talking waiting for hours -outside -often in bad weather. That's no good.

The frustration I have repeatedly is trying to find enough solid INFORMATION on candidates to make an intelligent choice. I have my ballot open before me right now, and have been trying to locate something on some of these people which would tell me who they are and what they stand for. Even with the internet I find it difficult. Anyone have suggestions?

Before I forget: thanks, John, for your opening post -citizenship carries responsibility with it.

One caveat...contrary to what MTV says, not everyone should vote...if you aren't up on the issues or the candidates stay home some you don't cancel out the vote of someone who thought it out...

Sixteen officials in Benton County,Ms. were recently sentenced for voter fraud. Just when I thought this sort of thing was over with in my state, the other side starts doing it. This was a very large problem pushed by ACORN and others in 2008. It needs to be stopped cold by whoever is doing it.

I thought the OP brought up a thread about voting, let me go back to page one...... let me check ..... yep it is.

The guy can post about it here before he goes to his senator, it's a forum.

I certainly meant no offense to DoubleSharp, and yes, he has every right to post in this forum. It seemed to me that he was quite passionate about the problems in his area, and I simply suggested a way to use that passion to change the system. OK?

Voted about 3 weeks ago. Our votes were not counted in the primary. We had just moved, so we got the ballots right before the primary. We mailed them out a couple of days before the primary. Apparently, the PO didn't postmark either one (2 different ***, 2 different days) rendering them null and void. By the time they made it to the election office, they were late and not postmarked, so they didn't count.

This time, I made sure and got it hand-cancelled, where I could watch him do it. Somehow, your vote seems more important when you've been screwed out of it.

As I write this, there are just 5 days left until V-day!

Last night I sat down with my sample ballot and went through the list of candidates, marking down those who most agree with my views on how to best run this country. I also went on line and reviewed the records of elected judges. I found a few that have earned a bad reputation, and I will vote that they not be continued in office. Here in Arizona we have a number of initiatives, many of which have large numbers of out-of-state contributors for or against them. I've carefully sifted through the pitches and made my informed decision on each.

I'm going to take my sample ballot to the polls as my "cheat sheet" on Tuesday and then I'm going to VOTE.

I have already heard about instances of voter fraud and voter scams in various areas of the country. I will, and so should you, be alert for any sign of this. If such things are perpetrated, they should be corrected and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I am making informed voting decisions, and I will not have my vote canceled out or negated by the likes of Mickey Mouse or dead people!

I can't say this often enough, people. Your opportunities to make your views known come few and far between. Tuesday, November 2 is YOUR day. Go to the polls, and

VOTE!

John

Vote,

And offer rides to folks that can't get to the polls...Encourage other to vote by absentee ballot if they are unable to go. Talk with the elderly that would vote, but feel they can't hurdle the effort required, then bring them yourself.

Turn out the vote for this one...it's our chance to correct the course.

Voted yesterday. The Texas system is simple: you show up with your voter registration card and picture ID, just like on the regular election day. I like having a week or so to vote; there were only two people ahead of me in line when I arrived at the polling place.

Default Voter fraud hotline!

If you are concerned about voter fraud in your precinct, and have some evidence that it is being perpetrated to steal or counter your legitimate vote, there is a national voter fraud hotline available to you. It is staffed by lawyers who will know how to proceed.

Again, folks, VOTE!

Here is the toll-free number: 1-888-775-8117

Please pass this information on to anyone who may be affected.

John

First time I ever had to stand in line to vote on a Saturday morning. Hot races here for senate and some propositions. Will be 250 miles from home on Tuesday. You have to certify that you will be out of town on election day here. Not hard to do since its 18 miles one way from the farm.

I was in the AF, back when the Write bros flew. In my world members of the military should go to the head of the voting line, no matter what age. The military turns kids into men and women in a hurry. I trust their judgment. I live across the street from a major Midwest university. I am also very familiar with the University of Chicago, and the Hyde Park area. The 18-21 yr olds in our colleges are being influenced by teachers that are including what I consider socialist political views along with academics. The kids that go to our places of higher learning have yet to grow up. I FEAR their judgment.

Hmm... Dealing in absolutes never works out. I know plenty of individuals in the service who can't even name their congressman and plenty of students who are very politically involved and actually put time into researching the candidates, not just researching who is a "D" and who is an "R".

Is the uniformed serviceman's vote really more important than the informed student's?

I'm glad we've gotten past limiting who should and shouldn't be allowed to vote.
