Red face Back Orders /Production Time for S&W's

Hey Guys give me a real response to my question. Does anyone know how long it will take once my dealer places his order with S&W before he receives it. My dealer (large gun shop) ordered me a Model 617 (6" barrel) along with a Model 627 Pro back in September. I know the 617 is a hot item, but this seems to be a long time to wait. I want these toys so I can have something new to play with. My other toys are old and boring. Thank you for any updates.

11-12-2010: Updated...I called my dealer and there is no delay with the Model 627 Pro. The Model 617 (6") is on the S&W Production Schedule and I "should" have it in 4-8 weeks. It is almost a 2 hour drive (one way) to my dealer, so I will wait until both arrive. Also, Scooter, it is worth the wait as I am saving more then $100 on the 627 Pro then what you say Sports South sells them for. The Model 617 will be $100+ less than what I am paying for the 627 Pro. The dealer told me I was getting them for a good price because I was referred by a good friend of his.
Thanks for all the hints given, and I did call S&W which concurred with the info my dealer gave me. So now I will just wait.

Give S&W Customer Service a call and they should be able to tell you their production schedule for that model.

I have had a Model 632 on order since April and called them about a month ago to learn it wasn't even on their production schedule list yet.........

AFAIK, most dealers don't place orders with S&W. They place them with distributors. Ask your dealer.

That's true. When I asked my Dealer they didn't have a clue so I called S&W to see if my particular model was out there in the distribution pipeline. I was surprised that the Customer Rep was able to look up their production schedule so fast. I probably wasn't on the phone more than 3 or 4 minutes, but, having that Model's SKU number available when I called probably helped speed things up a bit.

After that I knew there wasn't much of a chance of my Dealer, or a Distributor for that matter, having a gun that wasn't currently available to them, but, once again, mine is a new Model........

Grommet, take a look at the following link for Sports South, it happens that they currently have your 627 Pro and both versions of the 617 in stock. If your dealer is signed up with Sports South, they can have both guns at your dealer inside of a week. However, you will need to act quickly, last time that Sports South recieved a run of the 617 they sold out in less tha 5 days.

Online Catalog

BTW, while Sports South isn't as widely known as Davidson's, they are a superb distributor with excellent service, they just don't do "specials" like Davidson's or Lew Horton. One big plus is that they do carry a much wider selection than Davidson's or Lew Horton. The downside is their internet catalog has a lousy search feature set. However they do keep it up to date on "in stock" status and don't delay on shipping at order out to their dealers. I've ordered thru Sports South in the past and recieved great service, so I won't hesitate to do it again.

One other note, the prices listed are the MSRP and what your dealer actually charges should be significantly less than that price. At my local Sports South dealer that 627 Pro would go for about 790 if I pay cash, with a credit card about 850 because he discounts for cash sales. If your dealer is charging a lot more, try shopping around for another dealer in your areaa and see what he'll do for cash up front.

PS; I watch their catolog on a daily basis waiting for one particular gun to come into stock. As for what brand or model that is, I won't reveal because I'd rather not have any other eyes watching for this gun to come into stock. However, in my checking I've seen how their stocking status will change on a daily basis.

Thank you for the replies. I have been out-of-state and will follow-up Friday (11-12-2010). I will call my dealer and S&W Customer Service too.
