Black Friday. Where Will You Be?
Most of us know that this is the biggest shopping day of the year, but the name itself sounds sinister like maybe some kind of plague or maybe even Armageddon or the end of the Mayan calender. I can even imagine people talking about where they were when "Black Friday" happened, much as they did the day JFK was killed or when the WTC was destroyed. I have visions of men being stuck in very heavy traffic and dragged in shackles through riots at Walmart and K-Mart. Thankfully I don't have to endure this annual torture for I am not married and only have to give presents to my children and grandchildren, who happen to love cash. I will probably be in my man cave (my whole house is my man cave) until my brother and fellow forum member Louisiana Joe arrives after fighting the traffic around the New Orleans shopping centers to get here. If he gets here early enough we will probably go burn some gunpowder. If not, I will probably go alone and give him something to calm his nerves should he arrive late because of the traffic. Lousiana Joe does not worry about having to participate in Black Friday for he is the man of his house and has decided to forgo this madness and come here where all is quiet and sane. But, he still has to run the gauntlet to get here. Pray for him. Where will you be on BLACK FRIDAY?

I'll be out back deer hunting Charlie.
When I was on the job, I used to dread Black Friday because of the volume of calls for accidents, purse snatchings, retail frauds, etc.
Be safe.

At home, in bed until time to get up. After that, I'm working around the house, and will shoot any black fridayers that get close to my place.

I will be firmly planted at home - thinking of the Hot Browns that will be coming for supper .
If you have never had one (with your turkey left-overs) you have got to try one - best sandwich ever!

I'll second that!.
Just a crazy day created by the retailers to lure crazy people into the stores at ridiculous hours. There is nothing that I want or need that would have me camped out at a store front at 12 midnight especially in a Northern Climate.
I prefer Cyber Saturday. Buy on line and have it delivered.

I'll be happily asleep, as my wife is walking in to some store at 5:00 AM. I just don't get it, but she sees it as New Years Eve, Fourth of July, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco De Mayo, and her birthday all rolled into one... When we were dating, she once talked me into going with her; one of the most ridiculous things I've ever 'agreed' to do... Hey, as long as she's happy.

Chasing elks! If we don't see any elk we will see if we can call in some coyotes.
Beats the heck out of shopping any day.

It's called black friday because every retailer's sales will be "in the black." As in they all bank money.
Unless you can get one of the limited quantity door buster deals, it's not even worth your time. And a small slide-of-hand is usually done on the door busters too (specially made model numbers). Still a good deal, but a little misleading. At any rate, I'm not interested in fighting the crowds to save money. 100 bucks isn't worth my time to be out at 4am and standing in a line 100 people deep. I'll be sleeping, thank you.

Screwing off....Maybe going fishing, maybe hunting, maybe watching the Alabama-Auburn game. What I won't be doing is going shopping. I may go in to the office and catch up...no wait my daughter will be in from LSU I probably will go with her to Lowe's to get the Christmas tree-it is a tradition with us. Years ago her older siblings were picking on her so to make her special, I took only her with me to buy the tree-she must have been 4 or 5 at the timse Since then, I have to buy the tree with her-if not (I tried it one year) I'm in the dog house. SInce she is away at school and won't get home from exams till December 11th and by them all the trees will be gone-default tree shopping is t'giving weekend. I don't have to put it up then, I just have to buy it. Usually get around to putting it up 10 days before Christmas. We'll start a new thread about how early people put up their trees

Once upon a time, I'd have spent Black Friday hunting mountain lions, but, having no remaining display space for such large specimens, and little remaining ambition to take another, I'm watching the weather forecast for the Flagstaff vicinity, and thinking about heading north and "up" to the San Francisco volcano fields, to look at ancient lava flows and other geological phenomena, if the weather will be halfway decent, i.e., not too snowy, and not at all rainy. Otherwise, I'll be down in the desert, perhaps doing a little predator calling, and seeking Indian ruins, petroglyphs, and similar prehistoric sites. I will certainly not be in any danger of being trampled by bargain-crazed shoppers, mad to grab Chinese **** at trade-imbalance-low prices. That there even is such a phenomenon as Black Friday is a sad commentary on our collective consumer materialism, and the commercialization of a cultural and religious tradition run amok. Maybe I'll just stick close to home, and take my kayak for a spin...

I'll be on the Outer Banks of NC, visiting my daughter and her family, for Thanksgiving. If not for this, I would do like last year and pick up a couple of firearms at Black Friday prices.

I'll be visitng my daughter in Albuquerque. In the morning I'll be in bed, salivating at the thought of cold turkey for breakfast. In the afternoon, I'll be sitting, digesting turkey and possibly watching TV.

I never have participated in Black Friday. Nowadays I find Gift Certificates make the best presents. One of my youthful memories is from
Yuletide Shopping Season 1960. I was living in Manhattan at the time, my mother took me to the Times Square shopping district, it was mobbed, I distinctly remember saying to her "Let's get out of here!"

Spending Wed., Thurs., Fri.,and Sat. at Amelia Island, Florida with Youngest daughter ,son-in-law, grandaughter, and grandson. Our oldest daughter, son-in-law, and grandson will not be able to join us though- but sure wish they could-- will miss them.
On the bright side, did get to visit them yesterday-- burned about 150 rounds through his Mod. 18-4 and a modified Ruger 10-22. Both are accurate and a hoot to shoot.

Hopefully in the deer camp. This has been a year when I couldn't go hunting much (tons of things to do to get the house ready for visitors, a wedding of our son . . . on the peak day of the rut . . . and relatives coming in for Thanksgiving Tues, Wed, and Thursday.
Having done my good husbandly duties, I'll finally be guilt free when I hit the woods!
Tom
PS: I've gone only six times, but got a big bodied buck early so the pressure is off at least!!!

I will be in my retail store hoping that not all my customers are like you guys. While our business is not like most stores on Black Friday, I very much do hope to see some people intent on spending money with us. In any case, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. All my best, Joe.

Working in the bank. I have no desire to do that. Many chain retail stores are going to be open during Thanksgiving here. I think that is a miserable thing to do to your employees.

At my local bar at 9:00. Having a special that morning and tapping some hard to find beers...like Russian River's Pliny the Younger and Pliny the Elder, Ballast Point Sculpin, etc.
Last year when I went at 830...there was already a line of about 40 at the door waiting to get in.
Yes, I will wait in line...but only for beer!

I’ll be at home. I find that most everything I need can be ordered on the internet. The price is always cheaper than a retail store and I don’t have to pay sales tax.

I'll be power shopping on Black Friday.
Michigan Antique Arms Collectors Inc. (MAAC) started having gun shows on Thanksgiving weekend at least 5 years ago. The shows run Saturday and Sunday, but exhibitors can set up at noon on Friday and that's the best part!

My son and I will be working magic spells, turning full cases into empty ones, and then back again to full. We will be taking a selection of 1911's and a rifle or two to the range to prepare for Armageddon (that is when the malls open early).

Well, since I have to work noon to midnight on Thanksgiving day (I have a slave driver for a boss, I'm self employed) I'll prolly be asleep when all those folks cram into those stores. Even if I was fully rested with a pocket full of cash, I don't think you could get me there at gunpoint.

For 45 yrs. I repaired cash registers for NCR. All the holidays were misery at work. Crusing full up malls looking for a parking spot out in the north forty. Snow blowin, trudging thru slush to the mall doors, only to find the joint you want is on the opposite end of the mall. Trips back to the van for parts. Even Victoria Secret service calls were bad. I was working at one of those trying to find a router buried under a counter one time. I here a guys voice was asking to buy a couple items. I get up and there's a middle aged guy, hairy arms, mustache, dressed in womans clothes. After he left I made a comment to the girls. They said he was nice and not the only one. I will never go to another mall.

Just one time i would love to stand back and watch people grappling, pushing, shoving and fighting while i tap one of the kegs we have in back.Every once in a while i would spray the crowd with beer, just to watch them scatter.
