Anybody got a good recipe for pop corn balls using sorghum syrup instead of corn syrup?

Hiram, My thoughts and hopes also!

As a kid, I remember some little country store outside of Bloomington, IN that sold sorghum products, including the popcorn balls. Dad always got a jar of sorgham molasses for my Grandfather and popcorn balls for us boys.

Milton,

Here's a quick recipe, but if you do a Google Search for Sorgham or Old Fashioned Popcorn Balls, you'll come up with several variations. Enjoy!

OLD FASHIONED POPCORN BALLS

Read more about it at Cooks.com - Recipe - Old Fashioned Popcorn Balls

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. light molasses
1/2 c. white corn syrup
1/4 c. water
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
4 qts. popped corn

Mix sugar, molasses, syrup, water and salt in saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture boils.
Boil gently until small amount of syrup forms a hard ball in cold water (about 250 degrees F. using a candy thermometer). Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Pour over popped corn and stir to coat popcorn thoroughly. Form quickly into balls using butter on hands. Makes 12 medium sized balls.

Indiana George, we always got our sorguhm from Picketts in Bakers Corner in Hamilton county. But it burned down and they're not going to rebuild. Picketts made sorguhm for YEARS.

That's just about 2 miles from me!
