Default I feel like I lost a child today

We had to euthanize our little dog today. She had diabetes and cancer. She was 11 years old. She gave us lots of love and she will be missed.

A good dog is every bit as much a member of the family, in that regards. I am sorry for your loss and hope that you overcome the loss enough to "try again."

Joe,

Trully, I feel your pain. They're like kids...and in some ways -better.

They just love you back...even when your not always payin' attention.

So sorry for your loss. But they're never gone from you...

Just waitin'....

Joe,

I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope this verse helps in some small way:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks to all for your kind comments.

Dixie was almost blind for the last couple of months. She learned to get around in spite of it. If we did not move any furniture, she could find her way around. Dogs are more intelligent than we give them credit for sometimes. Dixie would walk on the edge of the sidewalk and could tell when she moved to the grass and would move back to the edge. My daughter lives next door and she could find her way to her front door and then back home.

The vet put this on the casket that they put Dixie in and it is touching at a time like this.

There are a lot of critters waiting for us at the bridge. Remember the good times you had, they will keep you going until you get to the bridge.

When it is time, there is another dog out there that just needs the chance to fill the hole in your heart. Don't shut him or her out when the time comes.

Joe, my sincere condolences. They are like children to us. Even knowing how heartbreakingly short their lifespans are, it doen't ease the pain of their passing.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Our pets ask for so little, but give so much.

Thank you for giving another dog a wonderful home...when you are ready.

Very sorry LouisianaJoe. She is just the right size though to play with my little guys, Piper, Tater and Madeline after she crosses the bridge.

Petfinder is great, there's a dog out there just perfect to fill a hole in a heart.

Unhappy Katie's sad to hear the news....

Joe, Sorry about Dixie... I'll bet that you, like many of us here will have one hell of a pack of good hounds waiting for us at that bridge...

'Til that day....

Joe,

I feel your loss and I give our families thoughts to you through this time of grief. I lost one off mine; Louie November 1st. I am still expecting his barking when I get home and it seems empty without him around. For those days of such loss and sadness- there are so many good days you can and will remember forever. Those memories outweigh the few sad days that we must go through as pet owners.

Try to move on through the next few weeks. I know you will miss Dixie, but it will get better and smiles will return to your face when you speak of Dixie.

Jim

(Still thinking of you Lou, Spike, Duke, Trapper, Angle, Sarge, and Flash)

In my opinion there's nothing harder than having to put ones own pet down. I lost one two years ago, and I had put the other down last year, and I still miss them every day. I brought them home and buried them on our property where they belong. I go down and talk to them every day.

I feel your loss, and I am sorry that you have to deal with it.

Hang in there.

That's what I saw too. Reminds me of Jimbo's a little shoreside bar up a mangrove creek in Key Biscayne-house boat moored up behind it had about a 4 foot iguana sitting there eating oranges-good place . Take your time and mourn your little buddy Joe-you'll know when it's time for another one.

No doubt about that. I know that when I lurk at the other Smith forum there are sure to be a lot of great pictures of Katie and the entire family.

As I've said numerous times on this forum and others, I sure feel for ya, Joe, I've been there before and will be there again; it's never easy. As much as I love our mastiffs, their relatively short life span is the one thing I wish I could change about the breed.

Below is a pic of Briggs and Cleo, both gone now, this pic was taken about a month before I lost Briggs and about a week after we got Cleo. Briggs, on the left, was my first mastiff, I got him as an eight week old puppy in 1990, Cleo was a rescue. Briggs was about 11.5 when he passed and Cleo was just over 10 when we had to put her down. Ya just can't help getting attached to a good dog. It doesn't make it any easier, but as my vet told me once, it wouldn't hurt so bad to lose them if we didn't love them so much.

Hang in there, Joe!
