Default Why does a outgoing Gov need to "Pardon" Jim Morrison?

So outgoing Governor Charlie Christ (Fl) somehow felt it necessary to give a posthumous pardon to Jim Morrison of the Doors.

An indecent exposure and profanity charge at a concert back in 1969 in Miami. He was appealing the charge when he was found dead in a Paris bathtub (OD'ed).

Is this some great act of kindness ?? I just don't get it?? Sure I listed to the Doors back in the day but Jim Morrison was a troubled wacked out soul.

Ranks right up their with the President pardoning a Turkey.

I can imagine what Jim would tell him to do with his pardon.

His political priorities equal his ability to pitch a baseball.

Wow, I was there at Dinner Key Auditorium the night in question. Heck, I was one of the local promoters with a backstage pass, etc. If a pardon for dropping trou was in order, I can personally attest the need for pardons for several other offenses too, including possession of (at least one) controlled substance. I don't know that Jim Morrison was a troubled soul. He was a poet and liked--hell, he LOVED--living on the edge.

Maybe Charlie was responding to the request of family or some devoted fans. I can live with this easier than I can Clinton pardoning Mark Rich though.

Technically he didn't need to pardon Morrison. Because he died while the appeal was pending and therefore the conviction wasn't final, the operation of law is that the conviction is vacated and the prosecution dismissed. That's right, if you die while appealing your conviction, by operation of law you technically die without that conviction on your record. Same as acquittal. Don't yell or scream at me-it's the law. Course you are dead so it doesn't matter to you, but it can raise some interesting consequences.

I believe he did this because he's a moron, or had too much time on his hands, or both...

There are not more pressing needs in the state of Florida?! This stuff makes me nuts, every minute these guys spend on foolishness, is time not spent on important matters that affect the people that they are supposed to represent. Usually, this means living people.

For a completely meaningless opportunity to get behind our eyes hoping we'll forget he is a turncoat collaborating loser. Or something like it. Joe
