Default Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

This is a terrific biography of Olympic runner Louie Zamperini and the saga of his survival of WWII. Lost at sea, captured by the Japanese, brutal treatment as a POW... but he makes it home. A great read by Laura Hillenbrand, author of Seabiscuit. Check out the synopsis and reviews:

I intend to read that. I've seen a couple of interviews about it and it sounds like my kind of read.

Miss Hillenbrand is a pretty impressive gal herself.

If I remember correctly, he carried the torch in for the Nagano Olympics. I saw an interview with him years ago. He wanted to meet with the most notorious guard in the POW camp in which he was interred in order to forgive him for the treatment he recieved. The guard in question had repeatedly refused to meet with him.

I saw a television show on him before, not sure if he's still alive, but he's an amazing man... To name just a few attributes; brave, strong, smart, competitive, gracious, and yes, forgiving, if only everyone had his character.

Well I was going to start a thread about this book but did a search first and found this one, so I resurrected it.

My daughter got this book for me for Christmas, and I just got around to reading it this weekend.

If you havent had a chance to read this one yet, you owe it to yourself to get to the Library and check it out, very inspirational how these men survived.

I read it a few months ago. Very well written and drew some emotions out of me (like anger) that no other book has ever done. The japanese were brutal suns o' guns and he was lucky to have survived. With summer coming, it would make a great vacation read.

i recently finished reading this book last week. I am with "ordy". It drew anger out of me towards the japanese. I can not think of another person in the world who has so much will to survive. On top of all that, he even went back to Japan and forgave all those to tortured him. Very very very good book. I could barely put it down.

Onomea, thanks for the info, will check it out for sure, quick review, looks like a winner.

Read Laura Hillenbrand's Seabiscuit and went to see the movie, enjoyed both.

A "blue collar" horse that lifted America in really tough times.

Read this book about a year ago. One of the best stories about survival and how humans can treat humans.

"Zamp" was a vacation bible school comic book in 50s. I read his story from that source, and have seen a documentary and interview pre-Christmas. Thanks for reminding, inspiration is always welcome.
