Default Playing With Burglars.

We picked a couple of them up late yesterday afternoon. They were messed up on something so we isolated them and locked them down. We'll see if cleared heads prevail today and start trying to recover property. Should be interesting.

You likely will make someone happy for Christmas and a couple others feeling sort of closed in.

I like Foxworthy's version of playing with burglars-

Fire the taser.
Play with the trigger as needed.
Voila!- "Remote Control Convict"

I was assigned to Residential Burglary for about 5 or 6 years. I well recall upon getting one or two in custody, the seemingly endless hours of interviewing, coaxing, cajoling them and riding them around. Some really seemed to enjoy it, especially those with an extensive record. They knew that since they had only committed a 'property crime' that they weren't gonna get much more than a sharp wrist-slap.
Occasionally we'd be able to recover a bunch of property and being able to return some of that to grateful victims was about the only good part I enjoyed.
I now much prefer fulltime hunting, fishing, shooting and working p/t at the gunshop.
Good luck.........

I use to use the old "Breathalyzer" as a lie detector. When you turned it on the system had to be purged of old air and new air sample was tested.

DUI suspect was told to blow in the tube until the rods on top rose out of the machine and it buzzed. This happened every time no matter what.

A well known but stubborn burglary suspect was told this is a lie detector. I'll ask you a question and you answer. Then you blow in the tube.. If the rods rise it indicates you are lying and if it is a bad lie the machine will shock you when the rods reach the top.

Suspect blows, rods rise, suspects eyes get big, Keep blowing!! Rods continue to rise, eyes get bigger and machine buzzes. Suspect jumps back and throws the tube away.

See, we know you're lying, now let's get to the truth. Pick up the tube..... interview continued and stolen property was recovered.

in the mid 80's i arrested an 18 year old and subsequently charged him with over 60 residental burglaries...as mentioned above i drove him around and he pointed out homes he had entered which in some cases had not even been reported by the victims...well...the judge felt sorry for this misguided youth, found him guilty of only a few and he served less then six months....keeping in mind victim losses were in the tens of thousands of dollars even though we recovered a good deal of what he had stolen....yes...this ends just where you are probably thinking....within a couple months of his release we indicted him for significant sales of crack cocaine...this time he picked up a couple of years to serve...

That's like the one I heard about the cops running a wire from the copy machine to a metal collander which they would then put on the perp's head. They put a piece of paper under the cover. The would ask the guy a question and when he would answer somebody would press the copy button and the lie detector would spit out a piece of paper that read "He's Lying." I understand they got lots of "confessions" from some of the dumb ones until the Chief found out and reamed them all-I heard tell he could hardly keep a straight face.

Down here I believe the proper legal term used is "Trickeration"

Caj,
We had to cease and desist with our trickeration tactics too, but it sure proved that you don't have to be very smart to be a criminal.

I love listening to the guys that were around in the 50's. They can tell some good stories about the elevator, the car door and a few other places used as a confessional.

Shame such behavior is no longer tolerated. We had less crime back then.

My grandfather was a County Sheriff until he got himself arrested for fataly shooting a suspect. He had a chain gang that made people not want to go back to his jail. Now you have to give them color tv, a library, a chapel, three meals daily and medical care.

The perps live better in jail than they do at home.

Charlie,

Better keep an eye on them to be sure the balloon they swallowed didn't burst.... blood dripping from the corners of their eyes is pretty sure indication....

There is nothing slower than a jail elevator. The old time crooks sure were scared to get on one.

Tis the season. We got statements on one case and recovered some property and before we could work out the others the sheriff found himself behind a truck full of stolen tires and wheels. I transported the driver. He had been out of rehab about two months and was already covered with open sores. He's also got hepatitus. I keep Lysol, Germex, and rubber gloves for just such occassions. The stolen wheels led to other stuff so the other thieves were locked back down until tomorrow. The driver is a career *** who has never in his entire adult life done anything but steal and use drugs. My last dealings with him were about four years ago when he stole drugs from his step father and turned his oxygen off so he couldn't call for help. The perp's liver is close to shutting down so the DA will probably do something to keep the county from paying a large medical bill. I'll get my papers served early tomorrow so I can help out with the burglars who are healthy enough to serve a long sentence.

Charlie; Wish you worked around here. Auto breaking & entry has become a common crime. My Explorer was broken into before Christmas last year. Lost binoculars, tools, my prescription dark glasses, tapes, flashlight, etc. My neighbor lost more. He's a Gyppo logger, lost gas and saws. Cops didn't even take prints. I know it's kids looking for quick money for drugs but the thievery goes on. It's in the papers every night. Hope the *****'H gets a headache when they try on my driving glasses.
