Cool Dream Collection (Guns I'd like to own)

Hey everyone! I wanted to post my Dream Gun List and have people critique it and/or make suggestions as to who makes the best in what caliber or what other guns I should look at getting.

S&W 686 plus (.38/.357) Camping/Hunting sidearm
Springfield xd (9mm or .40?) Personal Carry
Taurus Judge Tracker Home Protection/Fun
S&W M&P 15 (.22) Fun

Browning Level Action 7mm? or .3006? (Elk Hunting/Black Bear)
Winchester Level Action 30-30 (Deer)
Double Barrell .12 (Turkey/Pheasent)
Semi-auto .12 (Dove/Duck)

Please off suggestions as to who makes the best one? or Who is the best quality, I am new in the community of firearms and would love all the advice I could get!

Thanks!
-B

Not enough guns. You need a 22 pistol, and you don't need a Judge. There are lots better pistols for defense and fun. Some sort of varmit/ target gun. More revolvers, a 1911 of some kind, more big bores. Bigger caliber for elk and bear. Of course a 30-06 of some kind, or more. I say a Model 70 Winchester and a Garand. A 12 ga. pump shotgun.

All I want for Christmas is a K22 Serial number K 116 or lower. It is a rooster thing.

I've owned or currently own just about everything that would be on my dream list. The one firearm I've never managed to acquire that I feel qualifies as a "dream" gun would be a Nambu Type 96 Light Machine Gun.

The 686 plus is a good choice. I have a prelock one in 2 1/2 inch and like it very much. Speedloaders and molded holsters are a little hard to find and a six shooter would have done as well for me I think in hindsight.

On the double make sure you have removeable chokes as you'll need different choke tubes for pheasant and turkey. Also a single trigger and ejectors are nice but will add to the cost. I'd suggest 28 inch barrels for pheasants but you'd want shorter for turkey hunting. Maybe a short barrel pump for turkey instead? Mossberg makes a reason priced 835 with 24 inch barrels as a turkey gun. 3 and 1/2 12 gauge and a tight choke is great for turkeys. The Mossberg is a little noisey though.

I like the Browning Gold shotguns as an autoloader and have four of them now in different gauges and configurations. They function well and have some nice features but most important they fit me and I shoot well with them. Try and shoot some shotguns before buying as fit is most important and I can't afford custom stocks made for my fit.

You don't mention an O/U which I'd suggest over the double and I have both. I like Browning, Ruger and Beretta in those with Beretta my best fit and what I own.

I'd forget the Judge and use the 686 for home protection and a home defense shotgun too. Remington and Mossberg both make reasonably priced HD shotguns and quality is good.

As far as hunting rifles I like bolt actions and own Remington 700s. Nothing wrong with a lever either or other actions if that's what you like. Normally though a bolt is the most accurate and could be a real advantage at long distance.

Everyone needs a .22 handgun too and my favorites are Ruger autos, Ruger SA and S&W revolvers.

I have a ton of firearms, but have allways wanted a Model 45 .22 cal. I've only ever seen two first hand, both were at a gun show in N. Atlanta by our own Handejector. I keep dreaming I will find one in a pawn shop for $350. but no luck so far.

My dad told me if everyone wanted the same woman this world would be in trouble. Every gun nut here is going to have a different list and it would change every time we looked at it!

Default Dreams in Steel

You are off to a good start. Many think a .22 rifle, a 30-30 lever, 30-06 and up bolt or ?, a 12 ga pump or double [w/choke tubes], a .22 handgun, .38/.357 revolver and a 40-something handgun is the bare bones. There are many slightly used items for sale, not just new.

My bare bones choices would be:
.22 rifle - CZ 452 or Marlin 60
30-30 - Marlin or Win
30-06/larger - so many choices! And committed partisans everywhere!
.22 handgun - Ruger Mark I-III; Ruger Single Six 4.625"; S&W Mod 17 4"
.38/.357 - S&W for sure. I recommend a ~2005 686+ in 5" bbl/half lug
.40+ - S&W .44 629-4 4" will do a lot; or a Ruger BH .41 4.625"
12 ga Ithaca 26-28" pump with tubes

Good luck,

Dyson

To each his own dream - I own or have owned almost every firearm on your list ( with the exception of the "Judge" and I'll keep my opinion to myself on that one) and most of those don't come close to making it on my dream list.

Of course, I've always had champagne tastes on a beer budget . . . .

I totally forgot to list it! But a 1911 is for sure one I want. A nice shiny nickel plated one is what I want. How can you neglect an original?

My short list of guns to get are a S&W model 66 with 4" barrel, preferrably with box & docs. Followed by a Remington 1100 12ga Skeet model. Would like to get either a Remington 552 Speedmaster, or Ruger 10/22 for my son that was born this year, as I don't currently have a second .22 to pass down. Reason these are on the list beside being quality firearms, is to give my sons a variety of firearms to shoot when they get older, and ultimately inherit.

Default K105 Found...

Hey Bill, You're in luck!

K105 (or was it K106?) has been located and I haven't gotten to it yet!... You might have a shot at it if you can run one of these rigs!

If you hurry, you might be able to get to Lake Erie before the ice gets too thick.... (or was it Lake Ontario?)....

Lots of good choices, tho' if it were me I'd want as many of these to be stainless as any other finish. Fewer rust worries, which might be a concern is this were some sort of bugout situation. The less to be thought of the better, in that instance.

Dream guns? A nice Garand, a Registered Magnum, a steel frame model 39, a nickel 3 1/2" pre 27, a 4", 6", and 8 3/8" 27, an original Fitz Special, a nice pre model 18, an M2 Browning (and enough money to be able to shoot it!), and a 1927 Thompson. I'm currently working a deal on a prewar 1911a1 commercial model, so that one should be off the list by next weekend......

I made up my first list around 1959. Did amazingly well in getting the boxes checked off; not everything on it turned out to be the Grail but it's been fun.

I think the only one still unfulfilled on the list is the Colt Woodsman Match Target, 3rd Model 4 1/2". Possibly the best looking semi auto ever made IMHO. But my 6 1/2" prewar Woodsman is a dandy runner-up, and I got it for a fraction of the price.

What I really should have been doing was investing in 1957 cars; damn, that was a fine year for wheels.

My suggestion would be to buy firearms for need first. I assume you've never hunted either. Hunting is/can be a costly hobby if you are just starting out. Each different type of hunting requires different gear and clothing. Big game is different then upland birds which is different for waterfowl.

Unless you have a friend or hunting buddy, the best way to hunt any type of birds (excepting doves) is with a dog which requires training and equipment. Doves and deer hunting is a good way to start.

For deer, it will depend upon the terrain. If hunting in a woodland environment then a good lever action rifle or handgun would be preferred. Most shots will under 100 yards and if need be; following the deer through brush with a smooth swinging firearm for a second shot. In open country, bolt action.

I would determine what I wanted to hunt then go and find a local board and ask questions like where to hunt, what gun is popular, caliber, etc. Then you can ask to tag along with another hunter or volunteer with the DFW on various projects.

Guns I NEED;

22 Rifle
22 Pistol
9mm Bottom Feeder
20 Gauge Shotgun
410 Shotgun
Muzzleloader
Varmint Rifle
357 or bigger Revolver

But with Variety being the spice of life, I have;

22 Rifle(S)
22 Pistol(S)
9mm Bottom Feeder
20 Gauge Shotgun(S)
410 Shotgun(S)
Muzzleloader
Varmint Rifle(S)
357 or bigger Revolver(S)

The two in Italics are the only ones i require ONE of....they just satisfy specific needs; 1) Deer Killing and 2) Home Defense

Every time I have made a list, I usually buy something else that wasn't even on the list! Hopeless!

My realistic current wish list, if anyone cares:

Colt SAA 45LC 4.5" - let's have a pair to balance the load.
S&W 686 - my 617 needs a big brother.
An AR of some type - also because my M&P 15-22 needs company.
FN SCAR 16s - color-coordinated with my Five-seveN in FDE.
Kahr K9 Elite - skinny, and much classier than any Glock.
I feel the need for an H&K, maybe an MK23 or more likely an HK45c, but not sure why.
Let's throw an M1A in for good measure, but which one???

And my next acquisition will certainly be ... something I haven't even lusted after yet.
