Default Grizzly attack part deux. 1 year later. The Griz the Wildey, and the 460s'.

Well friends, it is now a year passed since I started this thread and yesterday at West Palm beach I just picked up
my fifth Grizzly pistol.
I can't explain just how or why, it just kind of happened. You know what I mean?
I seem to have become quite fond of pistols in 45 caliber. The bigger the better.

I also traded for a Wildey in 45 WinMag this past year, so the collection is coming along nicely.

So, I snapped a few photos in the back yard to share with my Forum Friends and see if any of you have
acquired any new magnum pistols in the past year.

Pictures of the group as it stands today. I hope you enjoy them.

The latest. Unfired hard chrome perfect condition.

A parkerized 45 WM.

Black magic 45 Win mag with long barrel and bushing comp.

Group shots.

A few magazines acquired in the deals.

The Wildey pistol. 8" in 45 Win Mag. Just like in Death Wish 3.

The Wildey magazine is bigger than most modern micro carry guns .

A few rounds of 45 WinMag ammunition.

ANd , my favorite giant revolvers. The 460s'.

The 45 A.C.P. next to the 45 WinMag , and the 460 Magnum.

Happy Holidays to you all.

Thumbs up big, but comfortable....

My friend has a Winmag and it is fun to shoot, especially with the acp conversion. The comp makes the acp seem like a .38 special. It has some decent power also in the Winmag configuration. Nice guns.......

I always wanted a Wildey. The LGS has one at a decent price, I just cant swing it right now...but they have had it a while.

They are sweet! Were made local to me. Brother-in-law bought one, he didn't handload, so I taught him. We worked up a good plinking load using Unique and a 230 cast RNL bullet that was a step down from the factory-level stuff but still cycled reliably.

Talking

The designer and patent holder for the Grizzly, the late Perry Arnet, lived in Dade County. This might account for the Grizzlies and parts that show up in South Florida Shows.

I also own two Grizzlies.

One is a 6 1/2" blue that shipped in 45 Winchester Magnum. I have a 357 Magnum conversion for this pistol as well as a 357/45 GWM conversion.

My second Grizzly is one of the 10 1/2" long slides. It is finished in the matte hard chrome and was shipped as a 45 Winchester Magnum. I have a 357/45 GWM conversion for this one as well. I have been led to believe that LAR only made 20 of the long barrels for this chambering.

I would like to locate a 10MM Magnum conversion for either of them. However I only think that one was made for the little Grizzly.

I have never felt that the 45 Winchester Magnum was that big of a deal, recoil wise, when fired from the big Grizzlies. But then I have been shooting that cartridge for many years in my Grizzles and a 10" Wildey Magnum that I own. My second Wildey is chambered in 475 Wildey. Yes I like big cartridges in the big guns.

For those that do not know, the 357/45 Grizzly Winchester Magnum cartridge looks quite a bit like a 45 Winchester Magnum necked down to 357. .308 brass or AMP brass is the better way to start as using a 45WM as the parent yields a slightly short case.

The 357/45 GWM is very similar in ballistics to the 357/44B&D or the 357AMP. In-fact either cartridges loading data can be used as starting points for the 357/45GWM. The 180 grain projectiles break 1600 fps. The lighter weight slugs can exceed 2000 fps. It makes for a VERY flat shooting handgun.

Practical? No way.......Fun? You bet.

I have one of the Mag 1 conversions of the M-1 carbine in 45 Win Mag. It is a neat weapon. I have had two different handguns in that cal but never found one that suited me. I have not had a Grizzly and would like to try one.

Sorry to burst your bubble but these guns obviously need further testing before they can be safely fired. Send them to me before you use them again and I'll make sure they are safe.
P.S. Please include ammo.

I see this thread has resurrected so I thought i would post my shooting
impressions.
I handloaded a bunch of 230 jacketed to about 1300 f.p.s. which
is close to factory, maybe a bit less.

The large grip frame, coupled with the action of the slide running back
and forth really makes this a handful to shoot.
I found it difficult to get a good group offhand, about 5-6 in. at 15 yds.
When I rested it, the excellent trigger helped a lot and I settled down
and shot within the 8 ring consistently.

My 460 revolvers are actually easier to control. I would say probably
because of the lack of action of the slide kicking the heck out of me.

Sal, the dealer was Charlie of University gun from up north Fl.

Shoot them good or not, these aren't going anywhere soon.

Regards
Allen Frame

Wow... those are absolutely gorgeous... sweet comps! Didn't even know they made a Grizzly in .357 until today. I'm guessing you wear decent shootin' gloves when you pull those triggers?

I do notice that you like big pistols and revolvers.

Yes, they are great. Many years ago a friend of my did own a Grizzly.
It shoots great. I love your collection.

In Holland it isn't possible anymore to own such kind of pistol or revolver.
Or you hve to shoot silhouete targets with it and you have to be a member of such association.

was about to ask if LAR still did the 50ae, but just checked their site and they don't make any Grizzly pistols anymore. Had a look at one in 1995 and a Sig 210-6 at Bisley. Was sorely tempted to trade some stuff in, just as well I didn't...
