What was your best snag/buy in 2010 ?
Mine was this 27-1 with a Berns-Martin rig I've shown before.
What was your favorite ?

Probably this; a plain-Jane 60-7 Ladysmith I picked up in a local pawn shop:
I paid "too much" for it, but it's the best-shooting snubnose I own (or ever owned, for that matter).

This revolver is cute as a new puppy. It is a blast to shoot, no recoil and very accurate. It is now my favorite S&W.

I grabbed this M16 32 mag at a gunshow, the first one I had ever come across. Don't know if it was my best buy of the year but it was the rarest gun I bought this year!

It was a good year indeed. Got a S&W 625 Performance Center for $875. The new price was over 1100 but the shop was having a special show and marked it down to $925 and also came with a $50 gift card. Smoothest trigger I have ever pulled.

It was a great deal....
I have been looking for that model for years...
That's a great price. If I don't buy it, some nosepicker will...
These are but a few of the lies I have told myself this year.
But the rules say I can start over on 1 Jan. And as luck would have it, there is a show on the 8th.

Well, you didn't specify S&W's, so honestly my "favorite" buy in 2010 was a Kindle 2 book reader!
In the firearms division, it would have to be the SIG P220 Elite. I had an opportunity to buy it, but walked away. Was in my gun pushers again about two weeks later, and it was still laying there. Hummm.
Pusher says, "look at the price!" and I noticed it was now marked "used" and was over $100 less. Hummm.
Dude had bought it on Saturday, shot it on Sunday, brought it back and traded it in on Monday saying it "wouldn't shoot."
I jumped on it. Took it to the range two days later. At ten yards, with witnesses, my first five shots from the pistol formed a five-pointed cloverleaf single hole! We stopped shooting to check out the target, and when I saw how well it shot, I did what any red-blooded, steely-eyed shooter would do......blew the rest of the mag into a still respectable 2" group.
I took the target back to my pushers and told him to give it to the guy that said the gun wouldn't shoot!

My best buy was a mod 58 I gave $375 (i think). The pawn shop said if it had been a 44 he would have asked more but didn't think he could get any more for it. Tried not to smile through the back of my head on the way out the door. I'm quessing he must have been high. Doeboy

Tough call, either the dual extractor .45 Cal Model of 1950 I got at the SWCA Annual meeting:
Or the commercial M1917 I scored at the last OGCA meeting:

I bought a WWII commercial Mauser 98 all matching at a pawn shop for $275 because it looked very nice. Had no idea what it was. Sold it with in a month for $2,750.
I hope 2011 is just as good to me.

Gotta love a deal/steal! (o;
Best deal of 2010 was picking up the like new (used 4 times), 2008 Fleetwood 18' travel trailer for $9,900. It has been way too much fun.
Best gun deal last year has to be my Dan Wesson V-44 - 6" 44 Magnum for $369.

Brand new, untouched by human hands, still covered in cosmoline & wax paper wrapped, with 6 mags & a sling.
MAS 45 .22lr - a French made (Mauser tools) .22lr military trainer manufactured in the late 40's or early 50's.
Guy had no idea what he had.
Scuse the pics before the Cosmoline was cleaned off.

I got some pretty decent deals this year, the best probably being this '56 Chief's Special Airweight with the original box and paperwork for $355...
Other good buys that I snagged, a clean Model 49 with original box and papers for $350, 3" Model 64 for $350 and a 4" HB SB Model 64 for $269.

Colt stainless steel Series 80 'Gold Cup Trophy Model' with box and papers, private party sale out the door for $850. S&W M29 10-5/8 Siloutte model with papers and original wood presentation box, private party sale OTD for $850. They were tied.
Mrs Engineer got a M37, 2" nickeled, in the box, no papers or tools, UNFIRED. Another private party sale.
It was a Good Year. Savings account pays 0.05% APR, municipal gun funds are paying 8% to 12% depending on ...... Quit kidding around, they ain't for sale.

Tough decision, I unloaded three Colt revolvers to a Colt collector and he happened to have a Kentucky State Police 4566TSW, this was a sample lot made by S&W and was never adopted by Kentucky, so we did some horse trading. The next was a 4513TSW I got from a S&W forum member almost NIB for a very reasonable price.

Tossup.
A four inch, nickle Model 29 and a three and a half inch 27, each almost new in the box, slight turn rings for $500.00 apiece. Bought them from the same store, things seem to get cheaper there toward the end of the month.
I see old ladies luggin' gold, silver and blue colored S&W Boxes into that store the first couple of weeks every month. What I call "Dead Husband's Retirement".
Also got a nice 95/97% .32 Smith J Frame from Gander Mountain for $300.00...........

Best snag for me this year was the grips for this old clunker:
Off of flea-bay, no less! I probably bought around a dozen guns this year, but those grips were the highlight of my year. -S2

gjamison, that is just sick. Jealousy abounds. I picked up a nickeled Pre-27 with lots of character, but it's still real classy to me.

Probably the nib Browning reproduction model 52 Win. that I scored for 5 bills. It didn't hurt that it turned out to be ultra accurate ! Also scored a Remington model 700 ADL in 30-06 with a 6x scope mounted, in walnut stock looking the way it left the factory for less than 3 bills.

Pre 29 .44 Magnum 5 Screw with two barrels.......
I picked up this Pre 29 .44 Magnum 5 Screw with two barrels, the 6 1/2" barrel is un-numbered and the 4" barrel is serial numbered to the gun. It leters as having been shipped in Feb. 1957. Two other acquisitions of note are both non-S&W's, first is an 1895 Winchester in .30-06 circa 1913 with a hard rubber buttplate in 95% condition and the other is a Griffin & Howe Winchester M/70 circa 1961 in .35 Whelen.

Fortune touched me 3 times in 2010.
First was an 1894 in .44 that was sitting in the consignment rack for way too long. I made an insultingly low offer and the seller took it!
Then came the 1895 45-70 I'd been wanting, again at a discount of great proportion.
Ultimately, my grail revolver, a Lew Horton .44Spl.
This one did not come at a discount, but in a few years I'll look back and consider it a low figure. It was unfired when I took posession, but I've since changed that. Shoots straight! I'd compare it to my 25-7 for accuracy, and that's saying something.

Kind of a toss up for me.Earlier inthe year I picked up a 4"686-1 plus about 600 rounds of .38 spec.for 350.00 so I figure I got about 250.00 in the gun.In Sept.I sold a 20ga pump and a Knight .50 cal inline and turned that into a brand new 442 no lock.So I guess I was fortunate enough to have two pretty good snags.Haven't small game hunted in 15 years and really had no need for the muzzleloader.

Remington 1100 Riot gun issued to the Texas DPS. Has a little provenance as it was first on the scene at the Luby's shooting.

Whoa leswad! I like that Colt 3 5 7! That is a great example of a revolver that is more attractive than a Python in my view.
I'm waiting for the lightning to strike now.
