Waiting For The Midnight Amateurs
Three hours to go before the neighborhood sounds like WWIII breaking out. All the amateurs feel the overwhelming need to stand outside and fire their mostly illegal guns straight up. Unfortunately I don't hear too much about the bullets coming back straight down to thin out the herd of idiots.
Happy New Year to all the forum members and be safe.

I'll never forget New Years 1967. Was at Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam at the time. Come midnight the only safe place was in a bunker... never saw so many tracers in my life !!!

We live way out in the country with a couple of neighbors a ways off. It has been a old southern habit to shoot the yard shot gun on New Years. A 12 ga with small bird shot. I do not see any harm in that. They are far enough away where they might not hear the noise at all. David

The family with the modified AKs moved. They lived up on the hills behind us. I'm guessing the only times they got to go shooting was the 4th of July and New Years eve. The local PD had better sense than to come around the point of the mountain. The barrage probably was aimed north, toward Ohio anyhow. Yes, it worries me a bit, but there's nothing I can do.
Someone down river has a fairly respectable magnum. He'll cut loose with it a few times at midnight. I asked my wife for permission to do the same, and she predictably said no. Like always.
Since I'll probably be sacked out at midnight, it'll be difficult to tell where the noise is coming from. Doesn't matter, if I survive it there's a gun show tomorrow in Louisville. An hour and 40 minutes out. I need to be at my best to skin the vendors and walk in customers.

On Duty
Beaver here, with my side-kick LeeRoy151, working at our local hospital ER, waiting for all the drunk idiots to show up. It's 22:30 and all is quiet. Will keep you posted. Beaver is in the lab, and LeeRoy 151 is an RN/House Supv.

I'm thinking that a Tokarev, or any magnum, would liven things up a bit. Not happening in my town tonight, though. Is it possible that
EVERYONE has gotten PC? TACC1
Beaver; I sure hope your night stays quiet. After all, it's supposed
to be fun!

Someone was shooting a full auto AK at midnight, given the neighborhood I live in I doubt it had a tax stamp. Shooting went on for 30 minutes or so...some shotgun, some rifle, some handgun but the AK really got my attention.

Happy New Years everyone,
My 6 month old pup came to the edge of my bed at 12:02 AM whining & crying. It sounded like a trip to the range outside guess I am going to have to take the dog out shooting more to get him used to the noise.

People I've run into that live in Chicago, on the south side, tell me the 4th and New Years are spent in the bath tub at bed time.

Had a report on the Atlanta news. Last year there was this church. Steel building - you know, galvanized steel outer shell and exposed plastic-wrapped insulation in the ceiling. They showed the hole in the plastic. They showed the picture of the 4-year-old boy that the bullet hit. Head. Dead. "Don't let this happen again". Cops said they'd already made one arrest. 11AM. Man standing in the middle of the street emptied two or the magazines of 9mm in the air.

Couple of years ago, I found a 30 cal jacketed bullet laying on my driveway, 20-25 feet from the house.
It was lightly expanded. I am guessing a triente-triente 170gr........

I'm sorry! If you happened to see an Army light fire team (240th Assault Helicopter Co from Bearcat) on the east perimeter, it wasn't us. I heard it was kind of pretty, however.

I heard fireworks, then some sounds that may have been small caliber shots. First thing I did this morning was look for holes in the house, and check the car, which was parked outside. So far, no damage. Thank goodness.

I didn't hear a single shot, but then that might have been due to what I'd been drinking. ButI don't think anyone was killed in Juarez last night, which has to be something fo a record (over 3000 in 2010).

Heard at least 3 different full autos last night. One sounded like a 22, the other 2 sounded like AKs.
In my neighborhood, I seriously doubt these are registered machine guns.

Bosnia New Year was 1997
Bosnia New Year was 1997. Never saw so many green tracers, only had heard stories of green tracers from the 'ol timers speaking of Vietnam!!! Our "Barraks" were GP mediums with plywood sides and floors. I was outside in front of my hooch ( located right next to the officers hooch) when a 0-3 who was not infantry came out wearing his Kpot swearing obsenities said a bullet landed beside his bunk as he was lying down inches from his head!! Upon further examination by myself and another lowly E4, he was right, I watched the rest of the show in my Kpot too!!! Quiet in my neighborhood this year.

East St. Louis and New Years eve
The festivities started about 20:00 hours with sporadic handgun fire, by 23:30 the big boys were opening up! Lots of full auto or well lubrcated trigger fingers on AKs, ARs, SKSs, and at least one or two HK 91s or FALs! Plus shotguns of all gauges.
The funny part was the guy who emptied a .25 auto! I actually laughed at him! I spent the night on the floor, and next morning gave the house and garage a once over...no new holes.
I have found 9mm bullets in my roof and a 12 guage slug on the ground that bounced off my guttering in the past!
Happy New Year All. Dale
