I have bought used guns that had issues, not problems, and I returned them to S&W. They took care of the issues without charge.
Their warranty says it is good for life. It does not cover misuse, abuse or intentional damage. But I do not know of any other company that honors a warranty as well as S&W does.
I called them last October to order a part I wanted that had nothing to do with the working of a gun but rather my wanting a bushing wrench and an extra magazine. I fully expected to be charged for these items. They were sent to me by overnight mail, free of charge.

I believe the warranty states for life in regards to original purchaser. With that said, they worked on my previously owned 1911 without any hesitation, and paid shipping both ways. Think warranty work on used is up to their discretion.

I have never been asked as some other companies do.
I called one time just to ask a question about a minor problem and they said "well lets get it in here to look at it".
Absolute best customer service in the business and I am not saying that just because of the forum. You can call from 8am to 8pm .Who else does that??
I tell them that every time I speak with them.

Warranty states original owner. If the warranty card was sent in by the original buyer you're out of luck!

Not really.
They are darn good about taking care of any gun under the lifetime warranty, regardless of who owned it originally.

This is good news. i bought a Glock 27 40 cal. a week ago and it was like new but it was a used gun. i called glock 3 times and they never returned the message i left. all i wanted was to find out was what year it was made. i took the gun to the range and shot 50 rounds and didn't like the sharp recoil. so i traded it for a SW 539 9mm. i like all metal pistols better than the palamear. I am sure it is spelled wrong but you know what i am saying. the SW is only for target shooting at the range. I hope i like it, but with the kind of service Sw gives, they just got another customer. i will be buying more guns and they will be SW. thank you Doug

Husky--
Quality before, during and after the sale equals customer service. S&W excels in all phases--what more could we ask for or expect.
If the rest of the USA manufacturers ( what's left of them) would follow S&W's lead we wouldn't have to be buying any Chinese ****.

Gun For Fun, that's been my experience on a couple of occasions. S & W customer service told me they could repair, but I would have to pay for the repair, & for shipping both ways. The warranty is very clear too, states original owner. Like I said, my experience with it, others may have a different take on it. But at the very least, I don't believe you can count on getting warranty work done gratis on a used gun.

That's Ok they still sound like a good company. On that comment about whats left of companies in our country. we just heard that general electric is changing there mind on shipping jobs out and they said they are seeing that we can do better than they are getting outside of the USA. that is great news. maybe things will start to turn around and we will have the good old days again. i am retired so it doesn't effect me(70) but i feel sorry for the younger working people. Just some good news. Doug
