Default Not sure if this is the right place but.......

A friend of mine is starting in the custom pistol business. He plans on getting parts manufactured and then fitting them together as competition pieces. He has mentioned having me test them out for him but many questions arose. Maybe you guys can help me out.

How would he get them to me to test? He is in NY I am in Md
How would I be able to take possession of the pistols without purchasing them?
How could I test them without the waiting period?

Should I apply for an FFL? If yes, can a normal person who doesnt own a business get an FFL?

I am sure in the gun world the shooters on company teams are given pistols to use and test for competitions. How does it happen?

Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Miles, be very, very careful about this. Contact the local BATFE office and ask these questions. That will only answer the federal part of it. You will then have to familiarize yourself with the state laws in both MD and NY.

As far as I know, the law changed as far as FFLs go, and you must now have a store front. You will need to check this as well.

Be careful with this.

I agree this could be a complex and sticky situation. I am almost at the point of making some weekend trips to NY to test the pistols instead of having them shipped.

Thanks for the advice.

Maryland is a pretty restricted state for firearms, is it not. Be very careful.
