February 1 Storm
It looks like this sucker is going to cover a bunch of real estate (NM to NY). It started snowing here a couple of hours ago, but suppose to get real heavy tomorrow. I got 5 gallons of gas for the snowblower and am ready.
We got the alarm system installed today so I am going to use the time to read up on the features. After that, might have to load up some 45acp.

Max, doesn't sound like it is going to be fun, I read you got 5 gallons and was disappointed to see it was gasoline.

I'm just to your west suposed to get 12 to 24 in. snow w/1.5 in. ice on top. My alarm syst. just started showing a weak system bat. alert. First time I even knew it had a bat. back up. Now all I have to do is find the da*n thing and change it out. That'll be fun in the snow and 20 mph wind. They are expecting the power to fail and if it does it will be out for a few days, and to me that means the predators will be on the prowel. We have whole house genny and a mean GSD. (hes 7 months old in my avatar) We'll be fine. I just still feel better with the alarm syst. in top notch shape.
I think I'll go get 5 gal. gas and while I'm at it get me a quart of Knob Creek for myself.

I think were in for it......
* TIMING...LIGHT FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WILL BEGIN DURING MID OR
LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT. SNOW WILL
INCREASE ACROSS CENTRAL ILLINOIS TUESDAY MORNING AND THEN BECOME
HEAVY TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT. A MIX OF FREEZING
RAIN AND SLEET WILL OCCUR ACROSS PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND
SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS TUESDAY MAINLY FROM I-72 SOUTH...CHANGING TO
ALL SNOW BY OVERNIGHT TUESDAY NIGHT. SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL
OCCUR TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.
* ACCUMULATIONS...MINOR ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF LESS THAN ONE QUARTER
INCH ARE EXPECTED LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. THEN ICE
ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF INCH ARE POSSIBLE SOUTH
OF I-72 TUESDAY. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 12 TO 20 INCHES ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE NORTH OF I-72 TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT.
* WINDS...NORTHEAST TO NORTHWEST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WILL OCCUR
TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY WITH GUSTS OF 30 TO 40 MPH.
* IMPACTS...PORTIONS OF CENTRAL ILLINOIS WILL EXPERIENCE
HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
THEN EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS ROAD CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS
ALL OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS TUESDAY THROUGH
WEDNESDAY...OR LONGER. SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS AND GUSTY
WINDS COULD LEAD TO WIDE SPREAD POWER OUTAGES.
This is our forecast for the next two days........

There is 2 in the garage I think they have switch pannels and swiching equipment, and 1 up stairs in the ------- well there's 1 upstairs, it,s got some switches and I know at least 2 big fuzes. Now I dont think you mean the control pannels by the doors but maybe. They arnt big enough to hold anything bigger than a 9 volt. And thanks for the assist.

What the heck is going on? Other parts of the US are getting FAR, FAR more snow than I'm getting here in Artic Montana. Experienced the New Jersey "Day after Christmas blizzard" a month ago. As bad as anything we get out here...and we EXPECT such weather.
Feel sorry for the folks facing the next wave of these storms. Though...I did shovel this morning and it was -18 degrees.

Should be a box with a key lock on it, probably with the name of the alarm company. You'll possibly see a whole lot of wires running into it, unless the wires come in from the back. You may be able to see the wire "run" in the basement. My alarm box is about 15 inches square.
Not talking about where you actually alarm the house, generally 2 of those, one near the entry and the other in the master bedroom.

Don't worry John, I also bolstered the supply of beer. As it is still close to Christmas, there are also multiple bottles of Crown Royal about. There may be a break tomorrow morning and maybe on the way home from the gym will get more beer just in case.

Just got home from getting some gas and beer, we went shopping yesterday so we have plenty of food. Wednesday looks like a good day to watch some Dirty Harry Movies make some snacks and drink some beer. Hopefully the power stays on, not really worried about any trouble but if it comes i'm ready!

This is the #1 reason I moved from Michigan to Tennessee when I retired.
I grilled Porterhouse steaks on the deck this evening.

Sounds similar to what we're experiencing tomorrow and later. And the danged Superbowl game will add to the problems.
I just hope that we have no power outages.

We are supposedly on the southern edge, between the snow to the north and rain to the south. We are expecting some freezing rain.

Should be fun when the 2014 Super Bowl gets played outdoors in New Jersey in February.

No problem here. I'll be on the roof with two 1600 watt hair dryers set on high. Snow doesn't stand a chance of making it to the ground.

Actually John, I was an Eagle Scout. Being prepared was a very important lesson, maybe that is why I have so many flashlights, batteries, guns, ammo, etc.

Looks like this storm is going to be much worse south of where I live. They're forcasting 60 mph winds and over a foot of snow in central MI.Doesn't look like Wed would be a good day to fly to Detroit.

Same here. Muddyboot - I'm near Columbus - woke up to ice covered trees. My dog went out to do her business and when she hit the sidewalk, splayed out like Bambi and Thumper on the pond.
Good day to stay inside, watch NCIS reruns and engage in some "Who's better - Kate or Ziva?" dialog.

There's an SUV in the street in front of the house that's moved about five feet in the last half hour. I'd go push, but that would involve putting on pants....

We only have 1 truck in the state - our county gets it next year.
We ran out of salt and have been putting down instant grits. It was a mess.

I can't see across the street. No need to get the snowblower out until the wind dies down. Also, it is still snowing very hard. I can't believe how many robins are out in the yard. I have been trying to keep them fed.
I decided I wanted ham sandwiches if snowed in, so made a dash to Sam's for a spiral cut honey ham.
Both Sam's and WalMart are totally sold out of flashlights, however Sam's had plenty of batteries left.

I hate to rub it in but it got up to 70 at my house today, but that will all change on Friday when I fly to Colorado to go play in the snow... I'll visit it but I sure won't live in it!

Well, they are reporting 21" on the ground and its still snowing. The news is reporting 10 foot drifts in some places. I have not been outside, today. I doubt I leave the house tomorrow, either, except maybe to try to shovel the drive a little.

Was 40 when I got up this AM. 6:30. Thermometer said 65 on back deck @ 3 PM. No rain for last 5 days, it's real unusual here on the Oregon Coast. Had a load of Alder firewood delivered yesterday. Think I'm fixed for the winter.

Max, I refilled all my bird feeders today and the birds went on a feeding frenzy, no Robins though. Just ran some candles over to mother-in-law's, power has flicked a bit and I couldn't convince to just go to bed if the power fails tonight.

It's 19 here now, with 30+ mph winds. Snow is up to 10" and falling at a 1" per hour rate with snowfall not expected to stop until past midnight or later. They keep saying will get up to 16" to 24". Drifts are measured in feet, not inches. Hopefully will quit and they can get it cleared out by tomorrow this time. They won't be able to shove it off to the side, it will have to be scooped up and taken somewhere. A couple of parks parking lots have been designated.
I checked my scotch supply a couple days ago and made sure I had plenty to last.

Mr. Gore announced today that a sure sign of increased manmade global warming and a raise in global tempreture, is cold prolonged winters, with increased snow fall. We need to buy more curly que light bulbs, more electric cars and/or ride bicycles, and put solar shingles on our homes.
You have be believe him, he won the Nobel. :-)

Sure hope I on't have to drive to Chicago for the next couple of
days. I will say, that the road crews on the I-system do a really
fine job of keeping things running.
Pretty nice up in Wis. right now. I doubt if the wind has gusted more than 25mph yet.
