Default Most comfortable/ergonomic grip?

I was laying awake last night reviewing the guns I have in my mind (and I do have a few), and thinking which of the handguns I own or have handled feels the best in my hand and that would enable me to shoot more naturally. Some do come to mind that have reputations as being "ergonomically correct."

So I thought I'd run a poll; I'm only allowed 10 choices here, so pick your favorite or post a "write in." Pick only one - no multiple choice allowed!

Let's see how this goes, OK?

John

1911 single stack, with flat or Brown wedge mainspring housing, and medium length trigger, Pachmeyer grips with the rubber part that goes over the forestrap cut off. Fits like a glove. Since the early 1990s, I have shot many tens of thousands of rounds through my Colt series 70 configured like that.

I do realize that I inadvertently omitted the 1911/1911A1 pistol and its variations. Write-ins count, so if this or another is your pick, go for it!

Most folks have never heard of a 51 Remington. They feel to me like they were custom tailored to my hand. They point like a finger.

Houge rubbers on a K frame feel best to me, ugly as sin but comfortable.

I will probably be in the minority but I chose the German Luger. It fits my hand like ... almost nothing else ... You couldn't slide a dime between the Luger's grip and my Model 39's grip; they are both perfect for me. For using CCW protection guns, I would rate the CZ Compact's grip right up there but I carry a Colt 1911 style routinely along with a Walther PPK for those hard to conceal times. Thats my choices.

Best

Charlie

While I absolutely love the 1911 platform, (I EDC one and own 11) the P08 is the most naturally pointing handgun I've ever held. Allowing that the Rem. 51 has never crossed these stubby palms, I have shot most of the other offerings.

Where's the button for "other?"

Any gun is great with a Jordon Trooper or modified Jordon Trooper on it.

1911 fits my hand best, not much in the way of ergonomic enhancements.

Since write-ins are allowed, I'll vote for J-frame Pachmayr Compac grips. Butt ugly, but they fit my hand great. In the semi-auto realm, my vote goes to the 1911.

Of the choices given, I *might* have chosen the Browning HiPower, except the newer versions I've held have grip scales that are much thicker than they need to be.

I'll be curious to see if anyone chooses the Glock. The only reason I don't own one (or three) of these is that I absolutely despise the way the grip feels.

I have large hands so the Pachmayer Grippers work for me on my 36. Takes away some from the cc but makes the gun a pleasure to shoot. Same for my 28, which was my carry weapon back in the days. Hogue Mono Grips for the 2" 10.

I also like the CZ 75, PO7 Compact. It's a perfect fit to my hand.

The Browning Hi-Power for me is right up there with the 1911. But for me, the Colt 1851 has a point and feel unlike any other. Right behind that is the Colt SAA, and to me only a slight bit is the N-frame Smith.

Almost voted similar to Raider, the Luger won out but the SW 39 is the one I have. Fits better than a Sig or a Colt.

I've owned or shot all of those except the Ruger Super Blackhawk. The 39 is the best by far.

Of course, these ae just the factory grips; for really ergonomic grips you have to go to those for a Hammerli free pistol or one of the Fewinwerkbau air pistols.

I'm with Frailer's write-in choices...
S&W M49 with Pachmayr Compac grips. They fit my hand great. Mine's Always with me...
In the semi-auto realm, my vote goes to the 1911. The Commander is my favorite flavor of that venerable pistol. It just points like an extra finger.

I've shot every one of the guns on the list, and many more. My hand was made for the Colt Single Action. I guess I just inherited the right genes from my parents.

I voted the lugar. I have never hefted a glock! I tried a remington 51 many years ago but dont remember it well. All the others I owned one time or another. I have fairly big hands, yet most guns seem to fit me pretty well. It`s rifles that give me the biggest trouble finding guns that feel right. One you didnt give a chance to vote is a ruger speed six. We had them available at work with the rounded butt and they felt great.
I also like colts as guns, but the grip frames never have fit me as well as smiths. However with custom grips you can make most any handgun feel good.

Good point. You have a LOT of latitude to get the stocks you want with a revolver, even if you have to whittle them out yourself to do it. What suits me may be an abomination to the next guy.

I could make a comment here about personal preferences and the female of the species, but won't.

I voted Hi Power as the best choice offered in the poll. However, a 1911 with slim grips and a flat mainspring housing is just as good. Also, and this may upset the classic fan, the Sigma and the SD are pretty darn fine. Finally, a CZ75B gives up nothing to any of the above.
