How much would a "Bubba" refinsh job (Parkerize) de value a large frame SW?
Lets say just for discussion a newer blued large frame revolver. Not some rare collectible.
Say the bluing was all messed up so Bubba decided to Parkerize it. Say the mechanics of the gun are perfect and the refinish was good, some Brownells stuff or the like.
To me, it's no longer a S&W it's a Frankengun. It would not be worth having a gunsmith re blue it (to me)
What Percentage of value would the gun loose even if it was in good to excellent condition as far as shooting and function?

I can't give a percentage (sorry), but I have a K-38 that went that same route. It shoots great and I highly prize it. I even had it worked over by a top pistolsmith. Yes, I wish it had the beautiful blue finish, but I still love it.

That kind of re-finish would lower the value about 50%. It would be relegated to a "tackle Box" Gun.

The answer is kind of subjective. It depends on whether you are a collecter or a shooter. Do you mostly value purty, or do you primarily value reliabilty, accuracy and function.
As a shooter I would rather have a good parkerize finish on a reliable accurat pistol. It is more durable than blue. I am not a collector and don't place an extra value purty for its own sake. Although, I can understand why a collector would place an enhanced value on appearance.

Any N-frame revolver that I might want would have a hard time getting my attention if it had been Parkerized. Even a rare one like a .44 or .45 M&P would be no more than a $300-350 shooter to me with that kind of finish. I guess somebody who values the gun more highly would end up owning it.

Some times when you are dealing with prior military firearms, parkerized is the only way you can find them.

This one would be improved with a Parkerized finish. It has some really deep pits.
I probably paid too much for this one, but S&W didn't build too many 5" Triple Locks. Best of all, it is VERY accurate. It even shoots good in MY hands.

I like parkerized guns. It's a rugged easily cared for finish.
When I had some work done on my 586 L-Comp I had it parkerized. I think it's much nicer than the cheesy "matte" blue finish it came with. It's not for sale and it won't be so I don't worry about the value.
