Question Open bolt vs closed bolt firing??

Other than firing the weapon, is there any way to tell if it fires from the open bolt position (weapon in question is an Ingram Arms M10A1)?

Thanks for you knowledge.

Here's a link to an article that states it fires from the open bolt.

yes....
MAKE SURE FIREARM AND MAGAZINE ARE UNLOADED....
Cock the UNLOADED gun with the safety off....
Does the bolt stay back??
With the bolt back, pull the trigger? does the bolt fly forward?? If so, it fires from an open bolt.
to determine if it is selective fire....hold the trigger down and retract the bolt all the way, and let go of it the bolt...does it fly forward while holding the trigger down?? If so, it is likely capable of full auto fire

Most open bolt guns have a fixed firing pin on the breechface. The round is fired when the bolt goes forward and the fixed pin strikes the primer. No need for a firing pin under spring pressure as on most semi-autos as there is no hammer or striker necessary to hit the firing pin and drive it into the primer.

sheriffoconee has dialed you in. exactly correct. the open bolt ones are far more valuable! 1000.00 range versus 300.00-400.00 range.

I thought the ATF ruled open bolt firing guns as being readily convertible to full auto, and therefor a machine gun whether it actually is or not. Or was that only specific models?

Fixed firing pin means straight blowback operation. True for most pistol caliber MGs, almost never true for rifle caliber guns.
